FS Melbourne: 2004 NB SE Titanium Grey

Number 104 of only 381 Australian delivered cars (only 119 in Titanium Grey). It was sold new by Artarmon Mazda in NSW in January 2005.

Early history unknown but I've traced a couple of ex-owners so there is more recent history.

Currently has about 122,000km on clock. According to ex-owners, it’s running a rebuilt engine with a Garrett gt2871r turbo, custom exhaust, Adaptronic ECU with a safe tune of 180RWHP (plenty more potential), bigger injectors, bigger intercooler, upgraded blow off valve, bigger radiator, upgraded Exedy HD clutch & new flywheel (all done at 114,000km).

Work since I bought it in April 2021 includes:-
• Front wheel bearings;
• Brake pads (EBC Yellow), hoses & discs;
• Air con electrics & gas;
• Pirelli tyres;
• New windscreen;
• Oil leaks fixed (front & rear main seals, rocker cover gasket);
• Paint correction & detailing;
• New battery.

Known problems:-
• Small tear in soft top but no leaks;
• Aftermarket alarm & immobilizer can be a bit erratic so I just don’t use them.

Overall it's in excellent condition and is a fast, fun, reliable car. More details & pics on request.

Negotiable on price but starting around $23,900

That's a nice price for a well built SE, I've forwarded it to a friend who's been on the look out.

Any pictures of the engine bay, and do you have any details about the engine rebuild (pistons, rods, bearings, head work, oil pump, studs, etc)?

Excellent price in today's market! Especially with what's already been done. BTW with those upgrades, wouldn't that be 180rwkw? Even that sounds low (very safe) considering...

Here's a couple more pics as requested.

Re the engine build, sorry no more details, I'm just going on what I was told. I'm assuming it's all pretty standard unless proved otherwise but the engine is strong & runs beautifully. I did wonder about the 180RWHP figure, it does actually feel quite a bit more to my seat of pants but there is a copy of a dyno sheet showing HP not KW so that's what I'm quoting. It's certainly plenty quick enough for me, and has a lovely exhaust note.

That VIN suggests that it is a very early SE/MSM, assuming they started at 400400001.

Radiator appears stock SE, but if you did it/have receipts that's ok, hard to tell from the photo but looks stockish (mostly people get alloy ones for upgrades - bling rules 8) :) ).

180rwhp is about 135rwkw, I have 140rwkw and it feels really good. That number gels with the lack of heat shielding of the ABS and the lack of bonnet vents, if it was 180rwkw heat management would be becoming an issue. Looks like it might have been a build with relatively modest goals, and/or a desire to keep it looking as stock as practicable, eg a lot of SE plumbing retained, which a big HP build would probably replace. It means that (depending on the size of the injectors and the internals (forged or not), there is plenty of headroom for upping that figure without spending gobs of money. I wonder who did the build, if Mania a phone call might shed some light on details a prospective purchaser might be interested in (eg confirm forged internals).

This is a nice car, priced well, great value for some lucky purchaser!!

Good luck with the sale!

Details of the engine build are somewhat important to the value someone might place on it. Knowing if the rods have been replaced with forged items is the most critical. Unfortunately no way to tell once they're inside. Like GM said, if you know who did the rebuild, they might have the particulars.

It is well sorted for the OEM+ target, which is the sweet spot.

Good to see the correct wheels are still fitted. :mrgreen:

My guess from what is visible and listed is that it's at least based on a Mania Stage2 upgrade.

Thanks for all the nice comments but no takers yet.

I'm pretty keen to sell so price drop to $22,800

Your price is quite good, it shouldn't be a hard sell. Are you advertising in other locations?

I feel like most of the cars sell on Facebook these days. I can understand a reluctance to join FB, there's a lot of bad with the good, but for reaching the masses it's the best place. Join the various MX-5 buy/sell groups and post there. Ignore the trolls.

Thanks but I've had it on FB, Carsales & Gumtree. I thought I wrote a reasonable ad & the price was on a par with others but no luck so far :?

Agree - think you'll find it's the market at the moment, ie fewer looking to buy, as cars lingering longer in for sale ads.

I'd take that in a heartbeat, but the minister of finance holds the strings... :lol:

Hi Aussie,

Tried to PM but it seems to be stuck in the outbox. Did this sell?
