Here's an event that's really well suited to MX5s.
Lotus Club will be hosting an event at the Driver Training Centre, at Lakeside. It a bit like a horizontal hillclimb, and is heaps of fun. It's cheapish, completely different to a track day, you get to use your RACERS license, and it's a pretty relaxed environment. Detail at the end of this page http://www.lotusclubqueensland.com/events/
This event is also part of the Inter Club Challenge. Without even trying, the MX5 Club is currently ranked seventh of fourteen clubs, with three events remaining. I am entering this event, and I know of one other MX5er entering. If you got nothing on that Saturday why not enter, or a least come out for a look.

Cheers all.

Payment and form sent in this morning. I'll let you know if I hear anything back. Looking at previous event results it looks like the 60 entrant limit is usually filled.
Any tips on tyres (Federal RSRR or cheap Gumtree road tyres ) and pressures for these events gratefully received

I have sent in my form & paid up. I am really looking forward to this one. Something different to try. Just have to decide: will the Khumo stickies get warm enough or will I just use the street KU31s?

There's minimal time improvement between RSRs and NT01s on that track, so probably not worth running sticky rubber really. Besides which, it's a lot more fun with less grip, you can slide everywhere

Thanks Ross. That means I can be lazy and not change my tyres!

I think today is the last day to enter. Anyone else going, besides Ian and I? I hope my CTP comes today. Suncorp seems to be getting slower with their responses. Anybody else noticed that?

Got my CTP extension letter emailed from Suncorp today within 10 minutes of asking.
Think there was a slight delay with the last one I requested for QR but maybe that email went in after hours. I've found that they've always been very quick, to initial responses and requested corrections, when contacted during business hours.

Yes. I think the problem with Suncorp is that the address I send to (ctpbiz@) now gets forwarded somewhere else. The responses come from elsewhere.

I decided to take my stickies. Just in case. One of my work colleagues is out in his rx7 so office bragging rights are at stake.

Certainly was fun. Spinners are grinners (if not winners)
Gradually improved my times over the day (except for 180 spin on run no. 4). Think I got to 53.047sec on the final run. [Don't think this can be used to compare to previous events]
Only got a few pictures myself. One of Adam on the final corner.
Couple of Peter
and crossing the finish line
a bit of grass cutting occurred but i think we were spared some of the carnage that was going on on the Lakeside track itself

What a great day out. I'm a bit sunburnt but otherwise very pleased. A small contingent of mx5s attended, and we all had ago at lawn mowing, as we trimmed away our times. The course is tight and very challenging, with the added complexity of starting on cold tyres and brakes every time. Going round the skid pan was especially fun, going as hard as possible and trying to manage the inevitable transition from under- to oversteer, to heaps of oversteer. Woo hoo! It was great to see Ian out getting plenty of seat time, and a pleasure to meet Peter, who parked up beside me. Peter is a former club member returning to 5-land after 10 years in the wilderness. Also great were the drop-ins: Sonke, Hanson and John dropped by to say hello, check out the event and take few snaps. All in all a very good social and driving event.

Lotus club dtc days are always good always made better by having a few friends around, if you're on your own there's a lot of downtime. Times can be somewhat compared to previous events, assuming the start line was where the track changes from concrete to asphalt. My Pb was 50.005 last year on semis, didn't feel very different to running on RSRs though. Would have come out again if I weren't working today
