Sunday 29 March 15: IWMAC Dirt Sprint Rd 1

Postby plohl » Sun Mar 15, 2015 9:49 pm

Hi,

The first round of the Ipswich West Moreton Auto Club (IWMAC) dirt sprints is on Sunday 29 March 2015. This is a few weeks away so plenty of time to get the car sorted.
IWMAC has been around for ages and run a dirt sprint or autocross round once a month. The club is located between the Ipswich go-kart track and Queensland raceway, next to the dirt go-kart track. It's a great way to improve driving technique as the surface is hard packed clay and limited in grip compared to a tarmac surface.
The format for the dirt sprint: 6 rounds, one standing and one flying lap of the course per round. Your fastest round of the day counts.

To sign up, please check out the website: http://www.iwmac.org.au/home.php
General requirements for the car can be found here: http://www.iwmac.org.au/how-to-start.php

The event is run under cams and requires a Level 2 Speed license. These can be obtained as a day or year license on the day. Cams license require you to be a member on an affiliated car club. Again, club membership can be sorted out on the day. The event costs $110 for non club members, cams license is ~$100 for a year.

If you have any questions please let me know. Below is a video of one round in of the dirt sprint track.

Cheers,
plohl

I should be there as well. Assuming we've got the oil filler bolt out of the gearbox by then...

So, if you're not a member of any club, and don't have a cams license, what are you up for (plus the entry for the day)... ???

Can't make this one but will be there in April. Planning to do all autocross events as they line up with days off. :) Just washing the car after the event... :frown:

If you're already a member of an affiliated cams club:
$110 entry + $119 for full year cams license = $230
There is a cheaper option but I need to email someone to find out how much a day cams license is. IIRC they're around $50, and you can take that of the amount if you go to get a full license at a later date.

I think I'll be giving this a skip plainly because it requires club membership. I might reconsider joining the MX5 club again, but if I need to join a club to just attend the event then for now, I'll skip it.

Cams licence does get you a discount on your insurance with shannons.

That's cool. Understand the cost considerations all too well. Maybe come and check it out on the day. See if it's worth pursuing further.

Might have to break the boat out..... How sideways are you allowed to get? She's pretty loose on tarmac

As sideways as you want.

But bashing a cone costs you 5 seconds and going outside the cone line also costs 5 seconds.

There is an escort that drives a fair portion of the track sideways.
