Time Attack - Maximum Attack - QR Nov 8

Postby Magpie » Mon Sep 08, 2014 12:14 pm

Just received this email, however I will be working :( Need some MX5's in the top 10 shoot out like at Jap Nats. I the words of Doug, what is a race without an MX5 in it!

Hey Guys,

I’m excited to launch a new event this year, Time Attack – Maximum Attack which will be held at QLD RACEWAY on Saturday November 8.

It’s a full day event with Trophies and the popular $1000 top ten shoot out at the end of the day. The classes and the rules are listed on the web site under the Event Info menu option. The rules are similar to how we run a single day event, with four classes:

A. Street Class
B. N/A Performance Class
C. Forced Induction Performance Class
D. Maximum Attack Class

The event is jointly run with QLD Raceway, the same as we run the Jap Nats.

Event Cost is only $295 for the full day. The catch is I need payment for this event ASAP, preferably by the end of the month so I can lock it in with QLD Raceway and show them an event like this is viable!!! If you keen to race and get this off the ground please book in now!

Merchandise will be available in the form of an event shirt and sticker. I need all pre-ordered and paid by the end of this month to get the order finalised. The survey I sent out was 50%/50% polo shirt or long sleeve, so I’m not sure which way we will go yet. Don’t forget to email me your shirt size!!
Shirts $20
Stickers $5

Sponsorship of the event is only $100 and $150 if you want to get your logo on the event shirt. All existing Series Sponsors are automatically sponsors of this event and only need to add $50 to get onto the shirt. I will need all sponsorship finalised in the next two weeks as the timeline for the first event is pretty tight. I am hoping all sponsors head out and setup a stall on the day for drivers and spectators to see their products.

Please get onto the website and check out all the details: www.timeattackmaximumattack.com

prelim new rules...

Hey Guys,

I know it is close to the event but I spoke to a lot of guys recently locally and at WTAC about the rules and I think a change will improve the event. I have added an extra class between Street and Performance called Street Tuned. This class is about the tuned street car and is to support the tuner industry. It also closes the large gap that existed between the performance of a completely standard car and a fully built performance car.

Please have a read below. I will put these up on the website in a couple of days unless someone finds that I have made a mistake or has a good reason not to do it.

ioNetworks Street Class:
1. The car must be capable of being road registered. Any car without a registration sticker will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
2. The tyre tread wear rating must be 140 or above, and must be printed on the tyre.
3. The exhaust must be rear exiting with no screamer pipes.
4. Must have OEM glass. This includes all windows in the car.
5. Must have OEM doors.
6. Must have OEM full dash including center console, glove box and lower dash trim.
7. Additional aftermarket gauges are allowed.
8. Must have both front seats in the vehicle.(after market seats are allowed with mod plates).
9. Must not have in cabin adjustable brake bias or aftermarket pedal box.
10. Must have engine as fitted by the manufacture (no engine conversions unless the engine is available in the same make and model and has the same capacity and configuration as the original engine).
11. Adding forced induction to a naturally aspirated engine is not allowed.
12. Changing the boost level or turbo/super charger is allowed. The turbo must remain in the original location with internal waste gate.
13. If a roll cage is fitted, it must have the applicable modification plate.
14. Boot liner can be removed.
15. Removal of the back seats is permitted to allow for the fitment of a roll cage.
16. Must have full interior in the car, although Interior trim and carpet may be modified or removed to permit fitment of a roll cage.
17. No wide body kits, or changes to the shape of the vehicle allowed.
18. No increased track allowed.
19. No aftermarket aerodynamic aids such as rear wings, splitters and diffusers. Basic air dams and small canards if part of a body kit molding are acceptable.
20. No aftermarket sequential shifters, short shifters are acceptable.
21. No aftermarket sequential race gear boxes allowed.
22. Stock brake calipers front and rear.
23. Two piece brake rotors not allowed.
24. Adjustable shock absorbers not allowed. Springs can be changed.
25. Manufacture super cars shall be moved into performance class; such as Nissan R35 GTR. These will be on a case by case basis.

Street Tuned Class:
1. The tyre tread wear rating must be 140 or above, and must be printed on the tyre.
2. The exhaust must be rear exiting with no screamer pipes allowed.
3. Must have OEM glass. This includes all windows in the car.
4. Must have OEM doors.
5. Must have OEM full dash including center console, glove box and lower dash trim.
6. Additional aftermarket gauges are allowed.
7. Must have both front seats in the vehicle.(after market seats are allowed with mod plates).
8. Must not have in cabin adjustable brake bias or aftermarket pedal box.
9. Engine conversions are allowed. The new engine must have the same number of cylinders as per the original engine.
10. Adding forced induction to a naturally aspirated engine is allowed. The engine must be the same as delivered in the vehicle.
11. Changing the boost level or turbo/super charger is allowed. High mount turbo conversions are allowed.
12. Roll cages are permitted.
13. Boot liner can be removed.
14. Removal of the back seats is permitted
15. Interior of the car can be stripped.
16. Wide body guards are allowed for bigger brakes, as long as the hubs remain in the original position.
17. No increased track allowed.
18. Basic aerodynamic aids are allowed. Single element rear wings and extended front lips (splitters), basic air dams and small canards. Rear diffusers are not permitted unless factory fitted.
19. No aftermarket sequential shifters, short shifters are acceptable.
20. No aftermarket sequential race gear boxes allowed.
21. Manufacture super cars shall be moved into performance class; such as Nissan R35 GTR. These will be on a case by case basis.

4. Must have OEM doors. The door trims and inner door skins can be removed. The structure must remain.
5. Must have both front seats (aftermarket seats allowed).
6. Must have basic dash in place. Full aftermarket instruments allowed.
7. Must have basic interior in the front half of the cabin (removal of carpet, stereo etc and liner allowed).
8. Must not have in cabin adjustable brake bias. Aftermarket pedal boxes are allowed.
9. Wide body guards are allowed for wider tyres and bigger brakes, as long as the hubs remain in the original position.
10. No modification to the structure of the vehicle such as removal of sections of metal from the chassis to reduce weight or for aerodynamic advantage. Removal of front members to fit larger intercoolers and radiators is allowed.
11. Basic aerodynamic aids are allowed. No aerodynamic aid is to be within 90mm of the ground. Single element rear wings and extended front lips (splitters) are allowed provided they are completely contained within the vertical projection of the original vehicle. Basic air dams and small canards are allowed. Rear diffusers are permitted provided: a) they do not extend beyond the tip of the exhaust or b) they are completely contained within the vertical projection of the original vehicle.
12. Must have the same suspension geometry as the original manufactured car. Pick up points cannot be moved. Adjustable suspension components are allowed.

Maximum Attack:
1. The tyres must be Treaded R Compound Semi Slicks. Grooved semi slicks or slicks are not permitted. See the tyre register for clarification.
2. The car must still use factory chassis, partial tube frames allowed.

Unrestricted Class:
1. This class is unrestricted, except as stated in the general Rules.
2. Any tyres are allowed including full slicks
3. Cars in this class will not be included in the $1000 cash shootout

Guess where the suggested wording of rule 11 in performance class came from :). I hope it is adopted for the rules in 2015...

I will not be attending as my roster does not line up. A person started at the wrong time and they are off when this event is on. Project Manager does not want us off at the same time and my title requires me to set the example....

I wanted to see Danny's car in action.

To be honest I don't like the new rules. Street class is too restrictive now, mainly with regards to rule 24 and the street tuned class allows stupidly high powered cars. I think they need some tweaking.

Yeah, they ran japnats early in the year and it was pretty cool. Mad vibe, lots of cool cars. There will be some cool euros there this time.
I think it would be cooler if it was a lakeside though... well, for mx5s anyway hahs

Off topic plohl but they are asking for suggesting to rules for the 2015 Time Attack.

My preference was for the wording in Rule 11 to be in street class not performance. As an alternative I have suggested that street/performance class be split forced/natural as there is no way that natural aspirated can compete with forced if using the same engine, but I digress.

Hopefully Danny can show what a natural aspirated car can do.

beavis it is on again in 2015, same month so make plans :) I'm happy to offer a place to stay and garage space as I live about 10 mins away from Willowbank.

Where is this Mark?

I am trying to not get two caught up in this as it doesn't affect me either way, but some of the changes to the street class and "tuned" class are pretty stupid.

At Japnats there where more classes - I have also included the number of cars for each class.

A1 AWD Street - 4
A2 AWD Performance - 4
B1 Turbo Street - 3
B2 Turbo Performance - 9
C1 NA street - 3
C2 NA performance - 5
D1 open/maximum - 17

The new rules seem to be trying to lump classes together. I think this is okay at the point end of the field, but for the "stocker" cars, it seems that the gap between street and street tuned is huge. For starters, street and street tuned cars should be road registered. There shouldn't be adjustable suspension limits for the street class as pretty much everyone has adjustable suspension. Anyway, I am just ranting about crap now...

I'm not to fussed about the rules, however a diffuser making you open is a bit harsh, at least in my thinking.

This is part of an email I received:
2015 Time Attack Rules:
The rules are open for comment again. Please review the 2014 rules at http://www.timeattack.com.au/series-rules-2014.html and email me all comments. I will then formulate the group survey and what the majority wants will become the rule book for 2015. One thing I will be putting up is the dropping of the Class F: Toyota 86 and BRZ Class as there has not been much interest this year. If you do want this class to remain make sure you let me know.

2015 Maximum Attack Rules:
The inaugural Maximum Attack will be run next month, the first cut of the rules will be put to the test. If you have ideas for next years rules, please review this years and send me your ideas. You can find this years at: http://www.maximumattack.com.au/rules/

I think a car with a diffuser is more track tuned than street tuned though. Basically it looks like this has been done to stop some people whinging who have chased power with engine swaps, or significant turbo upgrades because they aren't competitive in the more open classes.

I'm going to sit on the fence about that rule 24 in street tuned, as I can agree with both sides...

Rule 11 in Performance is excellent, good call Mark, I will now start making my diffuser :)

The classes are split already for FI and NA, for example C2 is performance class but is limited to 4 cyl NA where as B2 is 2wd FI Performance class. So even though there are the 5 classes, they are split down again.

Oh and on topic I will be there.

Right, I hadn't seen it that anywhere for maximum attack.
