I had the chance to attend the first "QR Regularity Challenge' today [still going!] and what a great event for those who want to hit the track at their own speed!

First thing: You CAN'T go under 1:05.00 at Lakeside without big penalties, so forget being super fast!

You go out and practice, nominate your lap time and then lose points being either side of that - pretty simple!

It's organised by the Historic Racers Club, runs ALL DAY, entry fee is $170 [so I'm informed] and caters for teams with awards etc

I went along with 'Team 86/BRZ' who just happened to have the BIGGEST team! They entered 5 cars, but bear in mind this was only the first event and to be truthful I knew nothing of it until a couple of days ago. At least 2 of the 86'ers had not been on track before and were doing low 12's and into the 11's

I guess there were no MX5's as simply - no one knew! Doug Chapple intro'd me to the organiser and asked me to pass this around - I feel great about it as even though I like to go fast and try for me PB's, with this I can 'settle' at, as, 90% or so and try for consistency

When I left, the 86/BRZ guys were having heaps on fun and by lunch they had managed I think at least 4 runsm so a chance at LP for 8-10 runs for the day and IF your current PB is around 1:08 or so, then you CAN go flat out for the day and maybe not break the 1:05 limit - of course if you do then you won't be sent home!

Let's see if we can get a team up [think of a number between 1 and 50+ for the next one] and when I get more details I will post them here

Gear etc is the same as a normal 'Track Day'

I might be interested in this in the new year, once I've got a couple of track days under my belt.

The Historic Racing Car Club QLD is thinking about another 'Regularity' afternoon on Sunday October 12 between 12:00 and 4pm

15 cars would be one group and 30 cars would be 2 groups - these would NOT all be MX5's, various makes

This is tentative dependent obviously on numbers interested, it woul dbe nice to have a team of 3-4-5 MX5's so please post your interesr here - I will try and find out the entry fee for each car, it was $170 last week

Get back to you all soon!

OK All

I'm still waiting for confirmation of entry fee and if this is an all day event - so far I'm running and think for once I will take the NA as I can set my own speed

Please post here if you are interested

Thanks

I could attend if it was between 30/10 and 5/11

However 01/11 will be difficult as my daughter is getting married, however I could sneak away :)

You might struggle Roger, the 12th is Bathurst.

I would be there but I am working that day at Mt Cotton for a 86 skid pan day. Maybe look at taking the 86 onto the skid pan and learn a new skill :D

What? Bathurst or the skid pan day

Personally after watching Bathurst for as long as I can remember, earliest memories are around '74 '75 as a young tacker, I don't see the need to watch 26 race around for 5 hours to then race hard for 30 laps. It is a very different race from when I was a fire marshal and medical car driver through the 90's. I got to work at and see what I reckon were some of the best races there with 55 cars plus 15 reserves some years.

And the after race parties were epic. I even got to drive one race car around the paddock area very late at night when told "if ya can start it then ya can have a fucken drive of it" when it had split a block and limped over the line a few laps down. Needless to say we got it fired up and did a quick lap around the paddock camp area....
