Willowbank 300 on 3-4 May

Postby MattR » Fri Feb 28, 2014 7:31 pm

Who's running?????

I know I am in a little red car with a distinguished gentleman of great skill and talent, as well an obviously good judge of character to allow me to drive.

Hey all,

I thought Matt was running with me, oh well!!!!

So specialist has said, can't do anything more for me, no more treatments etc, so just go and race if thats what you want to do, and he gave me a clearance to do so.
So sponsors are on board. Mills-Tui, Pacific Petroleum, Tims Tyres and Auto, and of course our company Bribie Island Coaches.
Car is now being preped, signwriting is organised, wets in the shed, semi's on rims.

Just gotta catch up with Matt and organise fueling and all the other B/S, and the reason for this post.

Corners has again offered his services as car controller, gra from work is our refueller, but we will still need at least 2 more to join the team
as pit crew, you know , the blokes or shelias that abuse the drivers, tell em when their next race is and put warm water in the drink bladder or worse.
nah, just kidding, they wouldn't do that
So if ya free that weekend, mainly Sunday, and the race doesn't start until after mass, so no real excuse for not coming. You will get free entry as crew, get to watch some great racing and get some experience at the same time.
So, if you wanna play can you pm me or MattR, and we will organise a get together.

Scooter will be reliable I hope, and two silly bastards, one who should know better and one who does know better, will go out and see just
how quick a basically stock engined car can circulate, and see how much fuel it can use, any guesses?

Forgot one more sponsor, Infrastructure Data Services. They may supply some suitable refreshments at the conclusion of the day.......

So that takes care of the important part of the weekend.......

Michael or George? Last time I saw that on track at QR, it was getting drowned out by almost every other car there. Made a hell of a sound in the pits though, louder would be great.

It's a Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Shipped over from the US by Geoff Fane I think, before the Kulig boys got their hands on it.

The Magna behind it in that shot is pretty awesome though, that was Mitsubishi's foray into the V8 Supercars way back when. One of a kind V8 Magna, stripped interior, full cage, all that stuff. Pit controller sent him out with the 4 cylinders the first time, thinking it was a 'normal' Magna :p

IIRC there were about 4 or 5 Magna's built with V8's for a National level series of V8 cars that was based at Wakefield in the mid to late '90's. The series was to be run at today's eqivalent of a Shannon's Nationals. They were a nice piece of kit and designed to be raced against the old 2l super tourers, same performance, but much cheaper to run and maintain as they weren't as highly strung. I know one V8 Magna did a couple of the original 12 hours at Bathurst and from a hazy memeory also did the first 24 hour at Bathurst.

The Magna that ran the 24 hour I think was built by Bond Roll bars and dríven by a good friend of Dad's, Terry Bosnjak. I remember going to watch those races at wakefield. I was only very little back then, I think 8 or 9.

The 24 hour Magna was white at the time IIRC and I can't remember the capacity, but I'm pretty sure was a Holden motor, not sure is 253, 304 or 308. I have had a drink and sleep since my time racing back then and fire marshalling.

Yeah, it was sold to wakefield park after and became one of their "drive a v8" things i believe
