The Holden Sporting Car Club will be holding a Come'n'try Motorkhana at Willowbank on Sunday 7th April. That's next weekend! It is in a couple of bitumen car parks around the back of the drag strip. For most, it is a 1st and reverse gear only event. That may sound slow, but the courses are tight and challenging, and going fast at low speed is a lot harder than you would think, and gives a real adrenaline rush.
The format will be slightly different this time, with no formal tuition session. However, you can ride and observe with others, or have someone in the car with you (if not a competitor, they need to sign a waiver and observe usual safety requirements). If you would like this to happen, just ask one of the experienced punters on the day. You will quickly see who they are! You will find everyone quite enthusiastic and helpful, so don't be shy. We are all there for a good time.
You can enter at the HSCCQ website or on the day. You do need to be a member of a CAMS affiliated club such as MX5CQ and need a CAMS license (a 30 day license can be purchased on the day if you need). A helmet is required if you are driving a convertible (soft or hard top). Gloves, roll cage and fire extinguisher are optional, but your car needs to be in generally good condition especially the brakes, steering and tyres.
You can compete in comfortable clothes i.e non-synthetic shorts, short sleeved shirt, covered shoes and socks.

These events are usually quite popular, so it might be advisable to enter prior, or at least let the organiser Keith Butcher know you are coming. Contact info is on the supp regs available at the above link.
You can see the comments and photos etc from the last event at http://mx5cartalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=71&t=56132
As always, I hope to see plenty of Fives and some new faces out there.
Cheers all.
