Queensland Raceway Willowbank Clubman Layout Questions

Postby Magpie » Wed May 23, 2012 3:00 pm

Well I attended my first trackday on 21/05/12 and would appreciate some advice on stringing together corners 3,4 and 5.

I'm confident that next time I can hold full speed through turn 1 and 2, plus I got better on the brakes at turn 6. I have attached some info on my times (first session and last session), please be gentle and remember that it is a 1.6 NA with 256k on the clock.

Simple follow someone who's quicker. I find that the best way. You will soon see where their quicker.
Your times are great for your first time.
Just try and drive smooth the speed will come and don't spend as much time in the infeild or off the track as I do.
The more seat time the better.

I find what works for me for Turns 3, 4 and 5 is to string them together as two turns dríven in the following:

Coming into turn 3, stay well out to the left, leaving braking as late as possible, keep a wide (left side) line where the car stays out at the left side of the track getting close to the edge of the bitumen where the drain inlet on the left is. This allows me to put aim my car at the start of the ripple strip on the right where the link track joins the main track and I start my turn in for turns 4 and 5 at that point with a slight lift of the throttle.

Turns 4 and 5 are taken as one long corner in 3rd where I touch the inside ripple strip and let the car drift to the outside egde of the bitumen/ripple strip at the middle of the very short straight between turns 4 and 5. At this point I am on flat throttle and do not need to change steering lock for turn 5. I then touch the inside ripple strip on my through turn 5 and drift out to the right hand side of the track exiting turn 5 at about 6500-6800 depending on how good the tyres are that lap in 3rd and then change to 4th at the end of the ripple strip as I start to slowly move across to the left of the track for turn 6.

This is in a NA6 that is standard down to 212000km old suspension on old RE001 tyres and getting into the high 12's on the clubman circuit.

Hope that helps.
