Good to see you thought better of taking your helmet off there Craig. You being stopped does not mean nobody else can hit you :p

Couple of screenshots from Harrys.
Give you an idea on speeds for a 1.04 on Clubman, 60sec on Sprint and 1.28 on National
Scanguage showed max speeds on DJ Straight of 169, and back straight 188.

Brain fell out. I was a bit all over the shop mentally after the spin - I had the clip undone and thought "wait, what are you doing, there are still cars going around. Either try to restart the car again, or sit tight and someone will come and get you".
Lesson in self management and self awareness there.

Oh, and where are my manners? Thanks to Adam and the QR crew for the excellent organisation. We might not be 100% on the format, but it was delivered exactly as promised.

Yes, a good day playing cars, thanks to Adam and QR crew, ran as smoothly as ever. Great planning from Adam, plenty of clear info during the organisational stage.
Managed a PB on the sprint, improved after a sloppy start, made a few adjustments here and there and got the car going reasonably well. Sounds like i might have front wheel bearing on the way out. More tinkering to be done.
Took plenty of photos, only group 1 and 3, Will have to sort them out and post the better ones up on some kind of photo sharing site when I get organised.

I'll agree with what seemed to be the common thread I heard in the pits - not enough time between sessions, for both the drivers and the cars. For a slower driver like myself, having less people on the track at once is a huge help in terms of confidence to push a little harder - along with less of me getting in the way of the cars at the front of the pack. Having the larger group meant the gap (in speed) between cars at the front and and back of the group was larger, and with 7 laps there was more time for the fast cars to gain ground and need to overtake.
Apart from that though, great day. Took two seconds off my Sprint time, and a second and a half off my Clubman time. Still slow though ;)

Re: MX5 CLUB OF QLD-TRACK DAY - QR - 25 MAY 15
Well I had a great day, even if I was 2-3 seconds off my best pace. Don't mix tyres kiddies. It ruins your confidence in the car. It took me all day to really get going.
I personally thought three groups/seven laps was great, though I did miss the first session, and two other first laps due to gas-bagging. But that's part of my role. I do agree however, that the time between runs was tight, leaving not much time to check tyre pressures, grab a drink, take a whiz, chat etc. Fortunately, my car is not too bothered with heat , so mechanically it's no issue.
Regarding number of cars on track, I prefer to be chasing somebody. If we had 48 entries, the density would have been just the same, although the speed differentials would be less.
Hopefully numbers can rise toward 40 again soon. We ran at a small loss again yesterday, and I don't know how sustainable that is. We need to find another few runners to hit break even. If we could get to 55+ regulars, we'd be doing full days every day.
If you have comments you'd prefer to make discreetly, please PM me.
Happy days.

Re: MX5 CLUB OF QLD-TRACK DAY - QR - 25 MAY 15
There were a few entrants yesterday who didn't get their preferred number. I could see the blanks on the entry list, but there was nothing I could easily do about it, and I don't think it is possible for entrants to change this on-line.
Setting your preferred car number is done at the time of entering each event. Use the field highlighted in the image below. Please make the effort to do this as it helps get my list matching QRs, and avoids QR assigning unexpected numbers. I have attempted to assign permanent numbers to regular trackday attendees, just to make it easier for everyone. In most cases your assigned number will be the same as your preferred number.

Adam
I had a great day
I liked the longer sessions
However, I did not like cars entering the session after the initial out lap.
If you miss the start grid, then miss the session.
I lost three hot laps during the afternoon where a car( twice the same person) came out of pit lane as I was coming down full noise to turn 1, where I had to take extra caution, brake early and change line and overtake during or before t2, ruining chance of a fast time that lap.
Close pit lane after group goes out.

Re: MX5 CLUB OF QLD-TRACK DAY - QR - 25 MAY 15
Group 2 and possibly 3 had the same issue with some cars entering a little late, however closing the pit lane would stop a person coming in for a short stop and then going out again. The solution is to have the entering car do it safely and this could be acheived by the person releasing the car to enter the track. A simple rule like "not released if a car is on the main straight" would work.
Persoanlly I would rather see the 4 groups, this would give people less track time but more quality time with less traffic. I chose to not do 2 sessions and give the car a rest so in effect I missed 14 laps but still had a good time. Used 55 ltrs of fuel, times are getting consistent and I learn a little bit each time, what more could you ask for?
Anybody heading out to Jap Nats on 30/05?

Re: MX5 CLUB OF QLD-TRACK DAY - QR - 25 MAY 15
I'll agree with Mark and Minx there, seeing a car coming out of the pits while just about to enter turn one was a little disconcerting, I'll admit. Though more a function of people not being ready in time than the groupings.
The main problem with having the three groups instead of four was not necessarily the amount of people on the track (well aware we have that many when we have more people participating), just the difference in ability of the front and back of the pack. Definitely would prefer shorter sessions with less traffic.
