Yeah probably. Sounds about right. He said he ended up out in the bus stop that the bikes use and was able to drive back on from there. Didn't realise there was any damage until he saw 1/2 the spoiler on the track next lap. :D

Ross - I think Amber went thru the grass at the bus stop! Will stand corrected though

It was pretty spooky over the top of the hill coming out of the Carousel there. I was shifting early from third to fourth just before the crest of the hill to reduce the torque on the start of the decent and ensure I didn't have to interrupt drive all the way down to the start of braking for Hungry.

She may have done too, but she wasn't in the same group as Gary and me. Really, for every car to drive home, even if a couple had some minor damage, is pretty good considering the number of times people spun. Would have to have been 8+ spins/big moments, only one actually ending in contact with a wall.

I found out of Karrusel was FUN!! No sliding out of the corner and using full power over the rise and picking 4th at around 6500rpm and saying a little prayer down under the old footbridge!! Scary seeing those skid marks thru the 'front lawn' on the left just before you crossed under the bridge! My Winmax W3's sure pulled me up coming into 'Hungry' and this morning thanked the guys at Automotive Plus for the decision to instal them

Looked at the tyres this morning, new rears on the rear still look new!!

Would love to see your incar if you have any, that top corner you mentioned did induce a little rectal clenching adrenalin boost! I decide to give that corner a little more respect after that one.

Although I had a slow, slippery day I still had a ball trying to stop the car from trying to throw me in the every wall it could find.

Hey Bow, only have footage from the second session, so your antics are only on the first lap, alas. The waving arm thing was encouragement - you were very gracious letting myself and Kim past...or possibly in the midst of avoiding a massive accident, it was hard to tell. :D

Oh, and I was laughing with you, not at you! :D

Thanks for sharing the video Vat, its pretty cool to see what it looked like from outside the car.

I didn't want to push the car beyond its limits, or mine :) I would have let you guys past earlier if we didn't have the "only pass on the straight" rule in place. Its no fun sitting behind a slow car, even if it is drifting :)

While sliding around a track in the wet can be a lot of fun, I can't wait to get some new rubber for it and be a little more competitive.

It was a lot more spectacular from the driver seat, I can tell you! In that first session I initially thought you were doing it deliberately and then realised you really were battling to get power to the ground.

No issues on the passing front, that was fine. You were kind enough to provide entertainment while we were waiting :D

Negative Camber and wet tracks.

With a bit of hindsight reviewing my horrendous lack of grip and inability to drive out of corners at Lakeside during the wet track day on Monday, it has occurred to me that running too much negative camber maybe quite detrimental in the wet. I figure there is a lot less tyre on the road surface. Anybody with any insights?

It's not as if I would be having settings changed on the off chance of rain but I'd be interested to learn a bit more about it.

My settings are:
Rear Camber -2.1
Toe in 1.5

Front caster 4.5
Camber left -2.8, right -2
Toe in 1.1

You may need to increase the tyre pressures as with a wet track your tyres will not get up to normal operating temps/pressures.

When I was running Street Sedans (old series production cars) there were two schools of though for wet weather running.

The first, do nothing. The car should be set up to drive well in the wet and the dry.

The second, and this is for road tyres only, not semi slicks, pump them up to about 42psi to open the tread blocks up as much as possible to push the water out.

Me, I did nothing and drove the same in the wet or dry. Remembering I was on road tyres only, and pretty ordinary ones at that, that were specified for the category.

Running in prod sports as the equivalent of a 2F car, in the rain you would soften the car up, and depending on tyres, leave the pressures. One trick was to disconnect one end of the sway bar to soften everything up.

Running as a 2B car, because I used Toyo semis as my wets, R1's IIRC, I softened the shocks a couple of clicks, disconnected the sway bars and ran a couple of pound more in the tyres as they wouldn't get as hot. That is if I had time or the day was going to be wet all day. If the decision was made to go to a wet track late I ran the dry set up with wet tyres. If the day looked like it would dry out later I just ran the dry set up.

A well set up car will work well in the wet or dry, case in point, Gary punting Cal's 2F car around to get 2nd fastest and John in his NC to take out the number one spot.

And a track is only wet when there is standing or running water on it, a slick will work if the road is damp, but as soon as there is any standing or flowing water then you will get problems of aquaplaning and depending on tread depth, even a spit of water may be enough to upset the car.

I hope everybody enjoyed their soggy day at Lakeside. I think I set my slowest times ever. I am out of practice, and was extremely cautious in the damp. The 595s were slippery as, and I later discovered that the LHR coilover has lowered itself, which would not have helped.

I think we, as a group, made the right call on no passing in corners. I think the chances of a multi-vehicle accident would have been quite high otherwise. Interestingly, Doug commented to me quite early that we had been quite lucky not have a serious accident, yet.

Anyway, most of us went home intact, so all good.

See you all at the Paperclip
