AS far as I am concerned 53 can do it! His improvement over the last few meetings attests to that - Dean L in his blue REGISTERED NA/NB goes well into the 50's but it's NOT naturally aspirated even tho road registered, 53's car is damn quick!!

Plohl, I think an engine 'refresh' in Ash's now 'ex' car was around $10k+ but it was always a pleasure to watch!

OK everyone, LAST DAY today to get the CHEAPER entry fee! So jump online and do it!!

Remember, 14 DAYS TO GO :!: :!:

I was having a chat with Ash in the pits a little while ago, when I was out on a practic day. So stated, his mom hit the roof when she found 55k of invoices for work on the car, in his dads office. He seems to think there was about 80k all up.

Yes Rob, blue and he adds the rear wing and front thingy when he gets to the track, thru the week it's his D/D!!

He did a 57.44 at Lakeside back in June this year!! Last year it was more 62's!! [source http://www.motorsportzone.com.au]

Geez!! I know it would have cost a fortune doing the series back in 2010 - get to that level and it can be 'cubic dollars'!!

Just off the phone with Ross C regarding numbers, 19 have paid to 7.30pm so I assume quite a few more will come thru later tonight and tomorrow, still think we will hit 35-40 which will be a good field!!

3 secs per lap to find and the are big seconds.

good luck with that

but i know how hard it is to find half a second let alone 3

drop a na v8 in might do it

V8 will not do it - Bullets don't work on the track. Heavy, unbalanced and can't get the power to the road.

Not to poke a bear, but really an NC with a non-std 2.5L engine is no really more "NA" than a 1.6 with a SC or Turbo.... yes technically it is naturally aspirated, but why make that distinction when VE capacity is where it is at anyway!?

So really why not open the challenge to 1) be a more reasonable/achievable time and 2) include any MX5 such that a V8 or FI engine is included - after all, to make the claim that a stripped, gutted and 3.0L V6 using a MX5 shell round the track beats any other time hardly tells you "the challenge" was really valid.

Meh... either way, I'd be lucky to get out of the beginners Group me thinks :P

I'm in the same class as Car 53 but my only mod is after market sway bars. I will catch him though ... if he ever has two flat tyres.

For the beginners group, is it split into modified and un modified? Or do all the noobs just get put on the track regardless of class?

How many cars are on the track at a time?

Also, what sort of times are the beginners running? And what sort of times for the level up?

Times for 'Beginners' are really irrelevant, because there can be a big vareity of cars and drivers in that group.
Some may have never ven seen the track before, or dríven on any track.
It works fine normally, as after each successive run, the Compsec can adjust the group members so they are more closely matched.
Dont be alarmed if you are a gung ho racer, but first time there, and get put with some old grandma co driving hubbies DD.
If you prove your worth, you will get bumped up the groups accordingly.

Normally max of about 10-12 cars per group

PS Groups are based on laptimes not classes, modds or stds.

And if it rains......well thats another adjustment to make.
