Pleasure, QR did acknowledge the rapid implementation of this system and I gathered it does have something to do with Kevin & Win, their timekeepers for over 50 years, retiring

I did mention to Richard from QR that I was unable to locate any mention of it on their website, and left that with him - his assistance today was greatly appreciated

As for 'other brands' running off their equipment I have no idea

So I guess all those following this thread will be wise to turn up early.
To have time to buy/hire and instal these devices.
I suspect QR on 21st will be a late start if 40 drivers rock up and have to arrange all that.

Agree!! Not sure exactly how they attach, pics that 'justabitrusty' show what appear to be screw holes, but that would take time to change over in between runs say, should both you and Mrs Minx run!

I think for the total price of $200 it is value in MY opinion for what it does, but so is 'Harry' for what he does! [did you get the new update within the last 24 hours?]

I was able to copy and attach the email with its entire content, should satisfy any questions. I also did note mention was made regarding turning up early to get the unit and I do note it can be attached by cable ties, so in your case, 'snip snip' in between each run! and forget what I said in the opening paragraph of this post/blog/comment/whatever - I ran out of whiteout!! Take a pack of cable ties!! Also note BOTH units can run same time, but that would confuse and show both sets of times each run

Also appreciated that 'Guran' gave us a run-down on what happens with their track days at Wakefield Park as well :D

I will work out how to attach when I see the unit but won't make a special trip out there to collect and attach, just get there early on the day, Staff are always there - I will ring again and confirm what time they start on that particular Monday

Sounds great fix to car all the time
And works at both tracks
Save me hire on a Dorian at race days too
As that cost $20 to hire but cost $600 to buy

Well we will get there early to set this up and fit in car timing

Well done! I think after the 'meltdown' over the past 48 hours I have been able to answer all questions! Thanks for your patience and everyone else! If you can't open the pink pig, smash it with a hammer and run!! [would it hold $200?]

I will go this weekend if not sooner and gran a pack of cable ties and stick that in the car, best to have on hand just in case none there

Stu .. just saw your post as I hit 'reply', yea I will see if I can get a pack of 200, not sure what size they come in but will confirm on here once I have them

Don't worry about that, joys of owning a electrical company, plenty of cable ties. I'll bring a couple of bags.

Thanks, very generous of you and appreciated!

I will ring QR again today and enquire as to what time Staff will be there on the day as no doubt these devices have to be set up, recorded and the display units matched to each transponder, that will take some time with around 35-40 cars. I will also enquire as to whether they as well have a supply of 'cable ties' for attaching, just as a 'back-up'

I'm sure we all appreciate Richard forwarding the email that I copied to this 'subject', it has answered quite a few questions

Look forward to seeing everyone there and can't wait until the day 'little reddy' makes it to Queensland!! 8)

If these Westhold systems turn out to do the job, I hope they are rolled out at other AASA tracks (Wakefield Park and Winton). Dorian need a major wakeup call with their pricing!

I'm thinking with the display unit in-car to place that on the steering column cover immediately in front of the instrument cluster - lay some tape down and stick it to that, can be removed later!!

Any ideas?

Sounds like the outcome is good in the end. $80 is an unexpected cost that arrose, but then QR could've decided on Dorians and everyone would be screwed. Those 3 year units will only be a hassle for multi-driver cars as they are always on. Will have to keep swapping them in and out. Luckily most peoples tool kits include race tape, zipties and pliers anyways. The only other way to get around that is to buy the $180/$200 transmitters. But that would get expensive real quick.

project

I think the matter has come forward rapidly due to the retirement of Kevin & Win

In the end I'm sure we will all like the end result, I have 'Harrys Lap Timer' and it's by far closer than most think and definately NOT a novelty!

For those with iPhones & laptops, monitoring will be so much better and also for those, and there are a few, that do 'practice days' no timing is available for that, so the new system will cater well - Nothing like running around only to wonder 'what lap times did I do?' :|

Guran

John Tetley, who is the operator of both QR and Lakeside wants to 'roll out' to every track in Australia, that's the idea. Then no matter where you are, if you have the transponder jobs done!!

Will keep you updated after 21 May as to how it goes, but talking with Richard from QR yesterday they were running it at the Sprints there yesterday and no problems!!

That is a very good feature. Will make the pit a fun event within itself for entrents.

Brilliant idea!!

In order that NSW/Wakefield Park can evaluate this new timing system, they send 'Little Reddy' up for 21 May ALL EXPENSES PAID, and you then report back to them!!

You never know until you ask!!
