Looks like I may not make this one as I have other more pressing needs for my hard earned $$$$ at the moment.

That's a shame that you have to miss out on such a cheap entry fee. Next time.

Re: MX5 CLUB OF QLD TRACK DAY 15 JULY 2013
Hi Everyone.
I am the happy new owner of a 10th Anniversary Edition NB and I am looking forward to meeting many club members. The car was a gift from my wife for my 25th Birthday as it was something I had wanted for a long time. This is my first "sports car," I have had numerous hot FWD "hot hatches" (XR4, XR5, Renault Sports', Audi S3 etc etc) and the family car is AWD so I am having fun getting to know this car's handling characteristics as I am sure you can imagine.
The reason for my post; I am very interested in coming along to the Track Day on the 15th July. I actually live in the next suburb so works perfectly for me.
I did have a couple of questions regarding the day. I have done a couple of hours of searching to find out the information and was unable to see it. I do apologise for wasting anyone's time if it is available somewhere.
1. Do QLD Raceways require the car to have any modifications done before using it on the track? I was hoping to just use my road tyres and use the car on the day exactly as I would if I was driving on the road. I will obviously use appropriate oil and such but could do without the expense of wheels/racing tyres and oil catch cans etc. If you think that this is a bad idea, please let me know.
2. Aside from applying for a one-day QR licence, signing the MX5 car club waiver, extending my CTP and paying monies to the club, is there anything else I would need to do before committing?
3. My plan regarding preparing for the day was to replace the oil with some fully synthetic, change the oil filter and air filter and just generally ensure all is running well. I am also in the process of replacing all the boots, bushes and seals on the transmission lever as they have deteriorated quite badly, and will change the transmission fluid at the same time. IS there anything else that should be done before the day?
3. Are current members happy with newbies coming along for the day? I don't want to look like I am just "using" the club to get a track day and will just end up adding to congestion on the track.
Thanks in advance for you time and all going well, look forward to meeting all of you on the day
Cheers
Ant

Hey mate, welcome to the forum and congrats on the car, what a great present.
Iv done many track days before but never at Lakeside so I will be a new comer all over again basically. As far as Im aware we will be put in the NBS class, as we both have NB's and both are stock.
You dont need any safety requirements as such like racing seat/harness or anything like that just make sure you have good tread on your tyres (as these are the first to go imo even before brakes) make sure your brakes are in good working order, no cracks/warpness in the rotors and enough brake pad left, more then 50% is ideal.
Only thing I can think of that you will need apart from the ones you listed above is a transponder/timer which can be bought/hired on the day. Its $80 to buy or $80 to rent then you get $60 back at the end of the day. If you plan on doing many track days you are better off buying it if you can afford it on the day.
Hopefully I have covered everything you asked, just make sure your car is in good working roadworthy condition is the main thing, as far as I know (Im yet to still meet other members of this forum) there is quit a few that run their mx5 on track that are stock or mostly stock
Most importantly though just go out and have fun enjoy yourself then go home with yourself and your car in one peice. I certainly wont be pushing too hard at all on this track not until I get used to it, I have seen alot of pictures at the end of the day of mishaps between cars and walls, none from this forum but other track days. But in saying that just drive to your limits and your cars limits dont go pushing yourself too hard if you dont think you are up to it, we are all there to have a fun day

Answers:
1. No. All you need is a standard roadworthy car. We are not racing. It is you against the clock at your pace. Think of it as a spirited drive on a one way road with no speed limits in the company of fellow responsible road users.
2. No, apart from wearing long sleeved top, long pants and closed in shoes on track. You will also need to bring $80 to hire a timing transponder. You get $60 back when you return it at the end of the day. Alternatively, you can buy one for $80.
3. No. Normally serviced car is all you need. What you plan to do is good.
3. (4.?) Yes...without qualification. You might like it so much that you eventually join the club.
See you there.

Thanks Zero00. I really wish I could say that my car didn't have those fully-sick chromies but unfortunately at the moment it does.... Definitely my least favourite part of the car!

That model was unique - not sure exactly how many were made but the 'poverty pack' just had buffed alloy!! They still look good!
