Re: Morgan Park Track day - Wed 12 August (BNE Ekka Hol)
Well I was having a really good day. That was until my skill level was outdone by my enthusiasm, and I was rear-ended by an out of control tyre-wall. No one to blame but myself. I just tried to push it that little bit harder through the Flip Flops. It could have been a lot worse, only the rear bar, garnish, LH tail light, and a small ding in the LH rear quarter which I've already popped out. At that point my confidence was shot, so despite everyone telling me to go back out, I decided to head home and strip off the broken bits.
Now that's done, If anyone has any of those bits laying around, please consider selling them to me.
Here's some pics of the damage.

Thanks for the day, it was still great.
Andrew

Gladiator,
If you push hard enough, it happens sooner or later....
I've done it myself a couple of times, pretty much ripped the front of my car off and put myself into hospital. (got away with plenty as well)
At Lakeside on Saturday, I watched a Evo do 3 end on end barrel rolls. Cars a write off.
Hard luck, but don't be to hard on yourself.

Yeah, lets face it. Chaz Mostert put his ford on top of the tyre wall a few outings ago.

Yep....Even the very best....
The quicker you get, the faster you go, the less margin, there is when, you have a O f#ck moment....
I've rubbed the fence/armco on the second loop and put my car into the nuts at Mt Cotton....
Ripped the front of my car off at Lakeside..... Been 5 times crashed Twice
Almost put a brand new toyota 86 into the wall at QR.....
Looped a excel mid pack turn one QR....
I've never let my lack of talent put me off....
Dust yourself off, you will be right....Couple hundred bucks and a new set of undies and you will be right back at it..

Was a great day with awesome sunny weather (we had about 30 mins or so of very, very light spit and rain that dried almost instantly) we enjoyed 3 different configurations of the track and despite some minor offs and oh crumb moments, it was still the most pleasing track I've been around.
I had 3 lessons/passenger laps with the guys from SDT and finally cracked how best to tackle a few corners! That was worth the entry fee alone as I was going about it all wrong and having someone push you into a different angle/approach is sometimes the best way to learn something new. Awesome.
I'll post some video later... any photos or vid pls share!

Thanks to anyone and everyone for organising the day yesterday. SDT are an excellent bunch of instructors.
Such a nice track, so much driving! When is the next one???
Our contingent fared reasonably well. Turbonator ran all day and was fantastic, the NA6 developed a miss though. For the NA8 I now definitely need to prioritise decent rubber for driving on track.

It was a great day out. The SDT guys are very friendly and helpful, but will also stay out of your way to just get on with it if that's what you want. I grabbed a couple of guys for some advice on a few laps, definitely helped with my confidence. I had a few squrily moments when the track was damp, but other than that, I had no problems, no spins, no offs, no damage!
The first 2 congurations were shorter, but seemed more complex to me. We only had 2 runs on each of these, and I didn't really ever feel like I'd gotten the hang of them before we moved on. I could have done with at least another run on each, but the bigger cars probably liked the long track best, it flowed nicely and had longer stretches for some speed.
I certainly learned a lot and felt I improved each time. I had to keep adjusting my breaking points and shift changes as I got through each section a little quicker than the time before. Still, lots of mistakes but I felt that by the end I could identify what I did wrong, not that I just was wrong
My only real complaint is that the track is 2 1/2 hours away! That's a lot of driving in one day!
Met lots of cool MX-5 people, put a few faces to forum handles and had a good time. Oh, and I left home earlier than needed, and ended up having the big breaky at the Aratula BP, as promised by Magpie, it was big and it was good!

Good news on enjoying the track day ManiacLachy, make sure you give some feedback to SDT. SDT do run a good track day they are happy to help or leave you alone. Also glad the breakfast was as posted.
I agree it is a long run out to Warwick hence why I normally stay overnight. I enjoy Morgan Park and now that I have turn 1/2 lines down it will be so much fun next time. Hopefully end of October.

Lachy, the first two configurations are just to warm the cars and drivers up with a bit of fun on the horizontal hill climb and on the front track a gauge for the instructors to work out who is who and what level everyone is at.
Glad you all had a great day, and that what I have been saying about Morgan park and the SDT days is finally startting to sink in after 18 months
The next day will be on the 24th October I believe. i will get confirmation when I get to Australia mid September and will put it up here once dates are confirmed.
