I'm sure JBT can explain better but it's a matter of economics, the track hire charges on a Monday compared to a weekend are considerably less, thereby keeping the entry fees down - it would be impossible to run a Saturday or Sunday and have those competing cover the charges, I asked the same question myself originally
If you could get off work around 11am I'm sure arrangements could be made for you but I do understand it does cause headaches for many.
See you in 2033!!

KU 31s are fine and good buying. Check the delivered price from Tempe Tyres in Sydney before you buy locally. Roy's NC is running at track days with 31s and he's never come off the track. We have 31s on our baby Bimmer and I can't really fault them despite having 36s on the MX-5.

Weekend rates are pretty much double the weekday rate. Unfortunately, it's unsustainable for the club to run track days at those prices.

Are the driver classes based onthe drivers skills as they get faster or does it depend on Miata modifications.

While cars are classed by modifications, they are grouped on the day according to lap times. For instance Group 1 are the fastest drivers according to historic lap times and the last group are the slower and would include newcomers. Of course if, after the first run a newcomer showed some very good lap times he/she would be moved up 1-2 groups accordingly. This is to alleviate a 'nervous' first timer not being passed down the main straight at 200kph while he/she plods along at 125 or so, same as the faster car coming up behind and the 'newbie' freaking a little!
I must say there ARE rules and one of those is NO passing ANY car regardless in a corner!!
If you are thinking of running and you know you will start out slow and get used to the car and track, you will be placed in the 'rear' group but nothing at all to be worried about, lots of great drivers there and we all have to start somewhere
Any modification away from 'showroom standard, like tyres, coil overs, swaybars and tyres will place you in 'modified' but cars fitted with turbos/superchargers are separated again from 'modified'

I didn't show the 'turbo/supercharged' above but you get the idea from those

Chefie,
By all means shop around for tyres but if you're on the northside, go and talk to Garry at Goodyear Autocare Northlakes. He is a racer in the XL Cup Series and is only too eager to assist anyone wanting to get on track. A Google search will give you the contact details.
Cheers, Alan

Re: MX5 CLUB OF QLD TRACK DAY 23 JULY 2012
Just got my CTP extension thru, now to print off the 'Indemnity' form and all ready!
For those who have not run before, you will require a 'CTP Extension' from the CTP Insurer mentioned on your registration papers. Unfortunately some of those Insurers require you personally collect and pay a small fee [not so NRMA]
In my case it's a matter of ringing NRMA CTP and requesting the 'CTP extension' for the actual track day [in this case 23 July], some may call it a 'Racing Extension' but they will know what you mean
If your CTP Insurer is NRMA simply ring 07 3352 3581 and they can email it directly to you
If you require any further info regarding the CTP extension please make a post

Did mine yesterday and for the day after as well! Will be interesting as Staff then will be down from 7 to 2, just me and the Manager!! All approved as she is aware of what I require it for
Just another reminder for those running to have your payments in by Monday 9 July for the BEST deal, save a little!!
Remember, if your car is registered:
CTP extension is required!!!!
You can also flick Mark an email to compsec@miata.net.au so he has an idea of how many will be attending and can sort groups from previous posted times for Lakeside. If this is your FIRST time at Lakeside maybe just tell him you will be damn quick or just 'puddling' around getting used to the track and your car

Go to http://www.natsoft.com.au and check the laptimes around Lakeside last Sunday 17 June for the Hyundai Excels!! I still find it hard to believe with the restrictions they have how many have the ability to go so bl**dy fast!!
I watched the first two races of the 'Excel Cup' with a field of around 20 cars and it was damn good racing!! Race 2 was a bit of a demolition derby just after 'Hungry' when one went off and then MAYHEM!!
I'm having visions of you flying around in the SE with a 'jam tin' up ya clacker!!

Jam Tin ? Up my what?
Roger, i have come to learn that adding 'lightness' and tyres make the biggest gains on the track.
(see Matts car)
I have plenty of ponies, but also weigh a pudgy 1130kg plus my less than slim frame on board.
The weight kills lap times.
I saying that, with a cool, dry day, 64s are in my sights for July.

'Jam Tin' referred to the Korean car!!
You WILL get that 1:04 while I'm hoping to at least get into the 1:08's or better, I think i've done a 1000 laps in my mind around there lately!! I'm sure I know where to find another 1-2 secs and then just have to have a few 'brave' pills for the end of the main straight and 'Hungry'
