Somebody so fast that the car didn't even hit the track until 3 groups after his 65sec was recorded

Nah, brakes and well set up suspension will make more difference than just powers

You can always get a better set up Shane.
And also time for some tuition then to improve the skill base to make use of the suspension and brakes

Re: MX-5 CLUB OF QUEENSLAND - LAKESIDE PARK 16 NOV 2015
I was really frustrated with my times all day and it lingered and nagged me. For days I kept thinking to myself "I was braking MUCH harder and later than ever, and my lines were smooth... so why was I so slow?!?"
then a few days ago I had an epiphany; my aim for the day to improve my times was to finally be brave and brake very hard and late, which I've been quite wussy previously.
My epiphany is that I was SO focused on my aim, which I achieved, that the detriment was my entry into Karassel and Hungrys were all screwed up... and the reason my corners were so smooth is because I was going SLOW through them because I've washed off way too much speed
Thank you to Adam and QR staff for a (relatively) smooth day, hopefully the damages were limited to cars, and wallets, and not to persons.

Yeah, don't take advice from everyone. Listen, but don't take it as advice because everyone's an expert which means nobody is.
I saw my wheel like a crazy bitch so I can feel how much further I can push it... Smooth is good when you know the car, tyres, track etc.

I would have come to grief if I treated my steering wheel like a crazy bitch! Steampunk and Vat now have an understanding why I almost called it quits after the first session. However, as you say G know the car/tyres/track helps, I knew the car had grip I just needed to 'push' to prove it to myself. Now just to get some seat time at Lakeside...

I'd suspect that 1) my front end needs an alignment (plus my tie rods are crap and need replacement) but 2) yours sounds a little too skittish and I'd be talking to the alignment man about that... doesn't sound all that good and wouldn't help ya.

Best thing short of coaching I've come across so far is finding someone who's a little quicker than you and following then. At the October midweek sprints I hooked in behind a Mk1 RX7 with the old Group A kit that was few tenths quicker than I was with an experienced driver. He had a much better solution to the Hungry/Eastern Loop complex than I had, so I adopted it. Similarly at the Club track day, a couple of guys had different solutions at Karussel, so tried those too.
