A few words of encouragement to those new to track days. Firstly everyone wants you these so please relax and enjoy yourself.

We are all a little apprehensive first time out so here is a few words of encouragement.

Don't worry to much about any faster cars coming up behind you its their job to pass you safely and you have as much right to be on the track as they do. Concentrate on your own driving, stick to your lines and don't spend all the time looking in the mirror.

In the interests of safety don't make any sudden changes of direction on the straights. You don't want to collect a faster car passing you that you didn't see. Leave slip streaming to the racers.

In terms of driving on the track most new comers take slow corners to quickly and fast corners to slowly. When approaching a corner break late, turn in, hold the lock and feather the throttle until the apex is lined up, squeeze the throttle to the floor as you unwind the lock. If you are near the limit of traction (and that's where you should be) you can't accelerate in a corner unless you are removing lock at the same time.

Have a fun day

Modified Engine internals being heavy modified.

We have to draw the line in the sand somewhere.
Remember how much prize money we are chasing for class wins!!!! :frown:
And how much the organisers get paid :frown:
There are so many variables over 30 cars everyone could have a category and win a prize.
There are always going to be stand out cars and drivers that are unreachable by others, unless they invest the equivilent $ and seat time to compete.
We all know even diferant tyres make a huge diferance, disregarding S spec tyres, even the normal 'road' tyres vary so much.

My 2c is we have enough diferant categories. And many participants dont even care. They just enjoy the individual day events.

For eg
I know if charlie91 was a Club member, and ran in every event for the year, he would win the Turbo/Super Category and I would have no chance. Beaten by HP and Mods. Fair enough.

+1

Despite what I said I'm happy with the current arrangements

All wrong.

First track day you need a very high powered (even better if only in a straight line). Drive flat out on the straights, break early and drive slowly around the corners, make sure all the under power car get backed up behind you. Then floor it in the straights so they can see how fast your car is!

I'm slow but they still let me on the track. I like to read a novel on the back straight of QR, which is doable in most MX-5s.

I think they put the sundial away for me and dragged out a calender for timing me instead!!

This time I'm disconnecting the hairdryer and leaving the nail clippers in the pits!! Bound to pick up another 0.01 secs!! Still, I found my Shania Twain and Savage Garden CD's, missing in action for years, found them when I emptied out the CD stacker in the Sportivo!! Damn Corollas!! So they can come with me for the laps!!

28 last count I heard, that was to 8.30pm last night .. looking good to break 40!!

So true!! After my MX5 days are over and age has caught me up [hmmm .. I think it passed me with a whooooosh years ago!] i'm taking up 'motorised scooter drags' on Friday nights at Bribie!!

At my first ever track day at Lakeside, down the main striaght and I actually turned the volume up on the radio because an interesting 'talk back' item was on!! Not sure how that day I managed to get thru Karasel!!

My mistake....Of course if you drive a BMW or you are a doctor with a Ferrari the above is correct.

Holy cr*p your car must have some balls! That 335i was speeding away from me like I was in reverse, until the corner came up anyway...
