As a former Brisbane resident and teenage driver during the early nineties.
I had more fun on a random early morning up Cootha.
what's with the cones the speeds even been that high, and it looks like they
took two lane sections and made them single lanes I guess to allow a return driver path.
I am sure the atmosphere added something but doesn't look like I missed out on the epic course
it could have been.

You wouldn't have much fun these days - 50km/hr speed limit and heavily policed.
That section is only single lane. The cones were there to reduce terminal speeds. The return path was down the old one way section which is now exclusively for buses.

Fortunately the back way isn't heavily policed and it's a tonne more fun.

Here's compilation of all my runs except the last one that I forgot to hit record for:
See if you can spot all my mistakes and tell me where I left time on the table. The first run is easy to pick...!

Well done on the results for both you and Magpie. The answer to your question may lie in the video of this chap who was a few seconds (and 23 places) quicker.

Pierz Harrex!
I can see two things immediately: (1) he holds a tight line along the inside of the uphill sweepers and (2) he's very brave down the hill over the finish line - what was only a twitch for me was a proper slide towards the inside edge embankment for him. Commitment!

Yes, apart from skill and S50 power, Pierz does have bigguns.

I was wondering if "that" piece of footage would emerge!
