This event is part of the MX5CQ Motorsports program.
This is a Test'n'tune event, which can mean lots of practice runs, depending on how many turn up, and subject to "fair play".
To participate you need to:
1. Be a member of a CAMS affiliated club e.g. MX5CQ or MGCCQ
2. Hold a CAMS L2S or higher license (or purchase a 1 day license on the day ($25). This becomes a credit if you decide to take a full L2S license within 30 days)
3. Be a member of MGCCQ, or take a 1 day membership ($5).
4. You can enter on the day ($60), but entries recieved by last SNAIL mail 13/10 attract a $10 discount.
5. A CTP extension is required for QLD registered cars.
On the day,
6. Bring some food and drink. On site catering may not be available.
7. Finalise your paperwork at the office.
8. Present your car for scrutineering. The requirements are similar to MX5CQ trackdays. Your car needs to be in good, safe, presentable condition. A fire extinguisher is required. Open cars do not require a roll bar.
9. Present helmet and apparel at scrutineering. The requirements are similar to MX5CQ trackdays i.e. neck-wrist-ankle clothes and closed in shoes are required. No synthetics!
10. Attend the driver's briefing at 8:45am
11. Proceed in an orderly fashion, giving Mt Cotton all the respect it is due. If you are a first timer, ask for advice. DO NOT just go full tilt at it. It may be possible to arrange some tuition, at the discretion of the Clerk of Course (probably be the main speaker at the driver's briefing)
The 19th October is also a MGCCQ shake-down day, in preparation for the Australian Hillclimb Championships two weeks later. As such the timing gear is also under test, so all times may not be available, or be posted up in a timely manner. I don't know how this affects the MX5CQ championship points, but that can be sorted out after we have our fun.
I hope to see plenty of fives out there.

Only three fives out there today: Jeff, Ray, and myself.
It was a quite an eventful day with many seeming to be having a red hot go even though it was only test'n'tune. There were three significant events, plus a few other towtruck delays. Consequently there was plenty of lost time, and a couple of mid corner coolant/oil/cement-dust patches to temper enthusiasm.
I still got eight runs in and could have done more, but I decided to quit while I was ahead. Driving conservatively, I improved my PB by 1.14s, so am quite happy with that. Ray also PBed, while Jeff started fast then could not repeat himself.
All in all, not a bad day.

Getting closer to the 50sec mark!
Good one, I hoping to be back soon, skyline has taken a back seat to work at the moment.

I don't think I've ever seen a more... 'eventful' day at Mt Cotton. A real shame, only two weeks out from the AHC and a handful of cars are damaged at least, even worse for others. Dean's Judd-Dallara has a bent tub, he's out I missed Dave's red Torana crashing, but I drove past him trailering it home around 3ish. Hope the AHC is less damaging. 111 entries left, after Dean dropped out.

Agreed.
Dean's flip was pretty nasty.
Dave Malone's Torana is going to be a lot of work. I don't know how original it is, but those old LC/LJs are fully welded... apart from the bonnet, there is nothing you can just unbolt and replace.
I think one of the "karts" turned over after the finish line too. Driver had a bit of bark off. That might have been the first incident of the day.

Something new at Mt cotton (or new to me anyway).
They had a live timing screen hooked up at the canteen. Showed the current run elapsed time (live), plus approximately the previous 20 runs. I got really excited when I came back and saw I had a 47.xx. Pretty quickly realised a leaf must have blown across the beam!
Anyway, it's a nice step forward.

Baby steps for me. Nothing like oil/fluid/dust in the middle of both loops to kerb your enthusiasm.
