2018 NSW Supersprint Championship

Registrations for the 2018 NSW Supersprint Championship are now open. Registrations can only be completed online.

Note there have been some changes to the tech regs for 2018. The website has updated regs dated 22/10/17 which I presume are the ones signed off by CAMS for 2018.

In Prodsports there is a reference to open cars not requiring window nets (this has been an issue in the past). As far as I can see, there are no other eligibility changes that might affect people's eligibility for Types and Classes.

The points system has also been changed, I am told to align with the CAMS Championship Policy. For 2018 points for class & type will be: 25 for 1st, 22 for 2nd, 20 for 3rd, 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4,3,2 &1.

FWIW, my identifier number from my payment is N94. I am reading that means I am either No. 94 to register for one of the three NSW championships, or that I am No. 94 for the supersprints championship. If the latter, I suggest interested people get their fingers out tout suite or you will miss out.

I have entered 6B, we were under-represented there this year.

Mine also says N94 so I guess that just identifies NSW State Supersprint series.
My letter from Bob Welsh has "Index Number : 30" "Class : 5C"
So perhaps I am the 30th entry.

You were right Nuddy, the CAMS number is meaningless to us as a guide to how fast registrations are filling.

Just got my email from Bob, No 73. That is at least 73, in 24 hours :shock: . At this rate it will be fully subscribed before the end of the month :shock: :shock:

My new (to me) car is log booked as 2B, does that mean I can only enter it in class 5C?

Can you elaborate on exactly what you want to do - register for the 2018 competition after getting an email from Bob (the series administrator)? I am assuming this is the case ...

Short answer to your question, it depends :lol: . You can enter any class for which your car is eligible under the tech regs, the logbook designation is not relevant if my experience is anything to go by (logbooked 2F, run as 3J Improved Production, 3D Sports Sedans and 2B Prodsports). For a Prodsports 2B car, if it is a full-blooded 2B car, your options are probably 5C and possibly one of the Time Attack classes. Is the car logbooked? And/or road-registered?

As in any consideration of classes, you need to carefully read the tech regs to see what mods you can do in each class. If you are logbooked, Types 1 and 2 are probably out, even if you could get your car compliant, as these are road-registered classes (that is, logbooked and road-registered is accepted, but not unregistered logbooked). Tech Regs

Can you get compliant with Type 4 (Prodsports 2F)? My reading of that class is that the main differences are in interior trim etc and bodywork/aero, and I looked at making my car compliant rather than run in 5C last year, but ended up in 5C for the Club points.

Yes, got the email from Bob and want to enter but thought it would make sense to work out what class to go for before hand.

I had a read of the regs last night and a couple of differences between 2F and 2B caught my eye; min ride height in 2F and tyres (road vs slicks).

Car is log booked, non road registered. It's an ex-MX5 Cup car, fully stripped but with no aero to speak of (save a GV front splitter). If interior is a requirement for 2F then that might swing it, as all I've got is a dash carcas and gauges.

I'd like to be in a class where I can be competitive but, as its my first season, realistically it's not going to matter. 5C seems like where most of the "race cars" would fit, making it very competitive.

Don't take too long! The 230 places fill pretty fast (see above), you are better off to nominate a probable class, and then take your time up until 24 hours before Rd1 advise a final decision. More realistically, consider your options and let Bob know before the end of January or February - leaving it as late as possible only makes life more difficult for Bob. You only have one chance to change your Type, and it has to be before the start of Rd1. I think the details are in the Sporting Regs.

Actually, make that mid February, as I see the first round is 3 March.

Road tyres includes semis (R-specs), but not the NT01. There is a road tyre list, and most semis are on it, but last year the Nitto was ruled out.

I can't remember how much is required, but 'working controls' was the killer for me.

Ummm, sorry to break the news, but 2B classes are under and over 4 litres, and the 4.0 911s ruled the roost last year :frown:

Don't worry, because we go out in groups of cars doing similar times (unrelated to the classes we are competing), there is always a 'target' in front of you :D .

For anyone who is registering but did not compete in 2017, PM me your email address, and I will send you a results sheet from this year listing all cars and their fastest times for all circuits.

You may find that helpful in scoping out possible classes. Of course things can and do change from year to year, but that is the best info available to us.

I'm hoping to go with Yoko A050 if funds allow. The slicks she's on now will probably be end of life by then.

I put my entry in on Sunday between coming home from the Club Motorkhana and going to a wedding reception.
I ended up being entry number 12.
Yes 2C again for me. Someone has to challenge those road registered porkers.

I am mostly happy about that calendar, I will be going overseas from Mid March to Early April. No rounds to be missed yay.
Just why north Circuit not only twice, but one after the other!!!
I want extended circuit!!!
And since NSW has the National Round this year it sort of means making the decision of competing at the National weekend the default option so you can drop one of those North rounds.

Places still available

There are still places available for the 2018 Championship, if you haven't registered yet (and many of the Club's 2017 registrants haven't).

In fact, I am going to take a punt and say that if you would like to run next year, and haven't got the 'invitation to register' email from Bob (ie you haven't yet registered your interest in the 2018 Championship), do it NOW expression of interest form.

Currently registrations are running at around 160-odd, and if like last year registrations are capped at 230, there may still be opportunities for new competitors.

Give it a go, what is the worst that could happen :wink:
