Re: THE 2015 MX-5 CUP!
For the SMSP rounds do drivers need a CAMS License, or does the AASA license cover it?

AASA licence is fine as FOSC is run under AASA. So all MX-5 Cup rounds will be AASA, although entrants can also use CAMS if they have it.

Re: THE 2015 MX-5 CUP!
In 2015 we have 2 rounds at Sydney Motorsport Park, on the South Circuit or Amaroo as SMP call it.
This is a tight and technical circuit of 1.8 km, featuring double hairpins, s'es, off camber tightening radius corners. One very experienced driver said it actually makes him a little disoriented and nauseous with the elevation and direction changes.
But it is a HUGE amount of fun, and very challenging. I would not recommend first timers race on this circuit, Wakefield is more forgiving of mistakes with fewer concrete walls and more space.
Unfortunately ARDC do not have any practice days scheduled for Amaroo in 2015. For those Cup competitors looking for track time on this circuit to get their eye in however they do have a number of days on the extended circuit which includes all but the final link S section of the South circuit. There are several practice days prior to our first round on May 31st, including one on the Friday beforehand.
So if you have your eye on taking the Cup home next year - make the most of these opportunities. AFAIK the quickest lap an MX-5 has done on this circuit is a 1.00.33 so the bar has been set very high.

Think I'll have to wait till 2016 before I get involved... Need some seat time & getting my head around door to door racing.

Hi Matt
Feel free to hit any of us up with questions any time.
Even better come and check one of the rounds out, first round is Wakefield on Feb 14 and 15. Watch some of the racing, meet some of us in the garages and even join us for dinner.
Cheers
Craig.

Re: THE 2015 MX-5 CUP!
Wasabi, I was in your situation last year, wanting to get involved in racing but didn't want to get into it before I was ready, mainly because of the mystique of "racing". Looking back on it I think I waited too long. I'd done 3 years of MX-5 Club track days, but looking back on it I could have made the jump after 1 or 2 years.
Everyone tells you racing is the best way to improve your driving and after a year of chasing very experienced drivers, I'd have to agree. You have to make sure you feel ready, but at the same time I can't imagine a better more supportive environment to try racing out than with the MX-5 Cup guys. I'm about to start year 2 of my racing 'career' and my ONLY regret is not doing it sooner, its the most fun you can possibly have.

Either way the advice is the same. Go out there and get as much experience as you can lay your hands on...

I'm 100% 1 year out... Plenty of experiencing on the track - Especially at Wakefield - BUT I've never been on the track in the MX5... In fact, I've never been out on the track in a car that wasn't AWD & didn't have 315hp +

Only thing I'm a bit uncertain of is the whole door to door racing portion. Will probably get out to a few rounds to see what it's like

Re: THE 2015 MX-5 CUP!
The door to door concept does seem a little daunting. I plan on doing a few longish regularity events this year to hopefully get some being overtaken /overtaking experience cause you don't really get it with Supersprints or club days. I hope to join the pack toward the end of the year possibly.

at a Race meet you can do it 5 times in a day, and a race is longer than 2 minutes, LOL

Car is coming along nicely, got the carpet out, mounted the seat directly to the floor and the kill switch should be completed tomorrow night.
Quick question, does the battery need to be boxed?
