The first MX-5 Club of NSW trackday for the 2012/13 season will be held at Wakefield Park on 29th July. Entry forms and Regulations have now been posted on the club website. Preferential opening date for MX-5 Club members is the 18th June 2012. The general opening date for entries is the 25th June 2012. Should the maximum number of entries be exceeded (80 plus 5 reserves), then preference will be given to members up to 25th June and then in order of entry date received irrespective of club members or guests.

Three important changes to note for the new season ...
  • Class 7 is now for "Modified Road Registered Normally Aspirated Mazda MX-5 NCs with limited modifications". The "limited modifications" are not defined ... but a little bird told me that those in modified NCs who're lapping in 1:10-1:11 can expect to be bumped to Class 9 (ie. Phil A and Ralph). Russell, Rob, Peter F, etc will be left to battle it out in this class.
  • Class 9 is still for "Race Cars" described as "Non Road Registered Normally Aspirated MX-5s and/or Class 5, 6 or 7 cars that exceed the specified KW readings/modifications, running on treaded tyres.". No turbo cars in this class now, but will include the faster road reg modified NCs. This class will be very closely fought by several cars doing 1:10s.
  • Class 10 is still for "Race Cars" described as "All turbo/supercharged MX-5 racecars and all MX-5 members running on slicks, irrespective of vehicle." So this one combines turbo cars from the old Class 9 with slick-shod cars from the old Class 10.

I've also been "encouraged" to graduate from Class 1, and have decided to run in Class 4 (Clubman) with a standard NA6 and Star Specs (I won't be modifying the car). Looking forward to resuming my little rivalry with Hammer! :D

Other news is that Mike is trying to get three rounds at the new Eastern Creek South Circuit in 2013! Early indications are that entry fees might actually turn out to be slightly cheaper than the Wakefield Park rounds. 8)

I for one really like the idea of more eastern creek days! Much easier for me to travel too :)

Yes EC looks good and I think the circuit (from my almost nil track experience perspective) will favour the brave. It's nice and tight with a 350m straight. It looks to be less benign than Wakefield in terms of off-track excursions.
Looking forward to trying it out, and it will be a lot quicker to get to (35 mins vs 3 hours) which is a plus for me.
And it a lot shorter distance to be rescued home from ! However I'm being selfish. Looking forward to the 29th to try some new things.

I guess really, as long as there is a track to go to, it's all good.

I'd like to say yes but I know I've got a rather full schedule that weekend. Might need some reshuffling.

I'm in, looks like I'll be in Class 6 as I have to many mods to fit into Class 4 :frown:. Will be seriously uncompetitive as I'm only on KU 31's and have stock suspension. But I have 3 maybe 4 mods listed in the regs (Intake, exhaust, aero and the maybe is a lightened flywheel) so I feel it would be to much of a stretch to ask to run in Class 4.

No chance for Clubman class there sorry Black Penguin. In a NB you're allowed two mods from the approved list; you've got three and two that are not on the list (wheels + flywheel).

Is this you first track day? If so, don't even pretend to worry about being competitive. Even in a modified car, you'll be doing very well if you can get close to some of the faster stock guys.

For those with road-registered modified NCs who're worried about what class they should enter, don't panic! I recommend that you put "Class 7" on your entry form. I suspect Mike's definition of "limited modifications" is deliberately vague and intended to only target specific drivers rather than their list of modifications. Otherwise, your list of permitted modifications should be guided by Type 2 Supersprint regulations.

Sent my entry form off last night and it has been received by Zan. I'm entered in Class 4 (Clubman) with a standard NA6. Should be fun!

Entry form posted just now.

I think I'm class 6, having an NB with coilovers and intake. I don't expect to be even remotely competitive though.

I'm in as well.

Spence, I'm the benchmark for slow. Just so you know I hold that crown and will vigourously defend my title.

Sounds like a challenge. Anything quicker than a parade lap and I'll be happy
