Unfortunately, looks like I am not going to make this weekend. Family must come first.
I hope everyone has a fun weekend, and I look forward to catching a few of you, and then overtaking, next year :-)

I will be there but not in #11. I have given up the seat to a mate who will do the Cup races. I am well out of contention for the championship. But I will be there cheering you all on and taking photos!

BIG weekend. And very dramatic final race, the penultimate race in the 2014 MX-5 Cup season. Pics below of the grid forming up. 12 cars started the weekend, not all were there for the finish.

HUGE thanks to our sponsors:
AUDIO TECHNICA for the never ending supply of headphones prizes

DECKSPEED for their massive support via provision of the race day package competition (times 5!) for the MX-5 Club, and never ending assistance for all competitors on race weekends meaning many hours spent under or hanging out of the bonnets of cars

HYDRAWASH for providing the magnificent trophies for the 3 series winners.

Full wrap up to come soon.

;) fair call. I will let Stu provide the full run down. In brief: Hugely hot weekend, track extremely slippery with all the diesel sprayed from the tracks. On Saturday – track temps of 56 degrees. Plus diesel. On Sunday add in the rain – a few times so heavy the garages were flooding – and there was a lot going on.

In the last race of the season Andy Harris had a cracking race to take second, behind Daniel Deckers. Carl Kosutar also a great drive on 3rd. Rainman Stu on 4th. And plenty of action throughout the race, water on top of diesel…… hmmm. Lots pf massive power slides, a few spins, and swapping positions (all paint jobs remained intact....)

THE MX-5 CUP SEASON CHAMPIONS: DANIEL DECKERS 1ST, DAVID STONE SECOND AND ANDY HARRIS/STEVE GREEN EQUAL THIRD PLACE.

The AASA titles: Daniel Deckers, Chris White, and David Stone.

Great round and a great finish to the year. Interesting weekend and it really did have a bit of everything!

Thanks so much to the organisers, thinking specifically of Craig, Luke and the Deckspeed team for all their work on setting things up and putting up with the incessant bitching of people like me. It has been great racing and in great spirit all round, with very clean racing on track. Compared to Excels, Pulsars, and even Super TT, the MX5s have seen by far the cleanest racing of all the MRA categories this year. Racing is hard but very clean, and regardless of what result you achieve, it is always good to leave the track with a car that is in one piece.

Will be back next year for sure!

I was limited to pit lane pics due to being pit crew and a driver. Don't sue me.

Another good fun round..
Some slight damage to the back of my car due to an over eager Suzuki Swift driver, but oh well things happen.

Had some good fun on the damp track, although the last wet race it really showed how much better proper wet tyres are compared to semi slicks, I had no grip at all.

Thanks to everyone who helped change my brakes on saturday night, and ran around when we realised my bearing was gone as well.. good to know there are so many friendly folk who are willing to come together and help others out.
Its been a great year and I have had a lot of fun, can't wait till next year.

I have a few pics of this round and a few of other rounds, i'll try and go through them soon and upload some good shots, mainly of the Super TT races, since it's a bit hard to drive and take photos at same time.

MX-5 Cup
Round 5 Wrap

It had been an agonising 3 month wait, for most competitors, for the last round of the MX-5 Cup for 2014. The November round is notoriously difficult to get numbers to - holidays, family commitments and depleted racing budgets often getting in the way. 2 years ago this same event had 2 MX-5’s turn up, last year there were 7, but it was a bustling grid of 12 MX-5’s that lined up for this year’s big finale. With a 2 day event in store and a championship on the line everyone was keen to get the last race meet of the year underway.
Image
The round was taking place at the AASA ACT State Championship, with the headline act being the Super Trucks. Late November and Super Trucks means hot weather and spilt diesel, so the word from those in the know was the track will be slippery. Don’t worry about lap times just go for track position. And that’s exactly what everyone did.
The scoreboard reads a whole lot less exciting than it played out. The first 5 of 6 races over the two days ended with Daniel Deckers taking the wins, Chris White in second and David Stone picking up third. But the battles that went on to make that happen were fantastic to watch. Saturday was a scorcher, track temperatures of 56 degrees and cabin temperatures not much different, the racing was fierce but fair right the way through the field. The only contact for the whole weekend saw Cam Hallam on the receiving end from an over excited Swift driver, that the MX-5 Cup was sharing a grid with.
Image
The 2 day events are rare so Saturday night was a chance for everyone to get together over dinner and compare war stories, some waiting for a couple of empty Merlot bottles to be on the table before subtly probing for inside info and weak spots.
Sunday loomed a little more ominous. The forecast was for a chance of thunderstorms and in true Wakefield style they rolled over the dummy grid as we lined up for the first race of the morning. It absolutely bucketed down with a few drivers having harmless spins on the diesel laced, wet track. But, no harm, no foul. There were some cars with reliability problems; two cases of gearboxes crying enough, some fouled plugs and an electrical gremlin, but those with the know-how pulled together to get most back on the track. A massive thanks to everyone who pitched in particularly Daniel Deckers, Gary White and Russell Harris.
Image
The final race and the championship decider was another wet one - after a typically schizophrenic Wakefield patch of sunshine and drying track - however this time everyone had time to see it coming. Those with wet tyres put them on and so it became a race of the haves and the have-nots. David Stone commendably battled on with the tyres that most resembled slicks, but the stand out performance was from Andy Harris who charged his way through the field to take a well earned second place. His best result, in an underpowered car. He was second place to Daniel Deckers however, who was faultless and untouchable all weekend, winning every race and deservedly, the championship. David Stone second place and third shared between Steve Green and Andy Harris.
Image
And so we started the countdown to next season. Everyone already planning improvements to car and driver. All that’s left is to say a massive thank you to everyone who helped organise the events and all who participated. The spirit and camaraderie on show this whole year was an example to all club level motorsport. Here’s to a bigger and even better 2015 MX-5 Cup.
