McRae Rallysprint Round 2

Postby deviant » Mon Dec 17, 2012 11:48 am

Round 2 of the McRae Rallysprint Series ran on Thursday evening. The weather cleared up to give us perfect conditions.

Under 2L, 2WD attracted a few more entries this round including some serious Ford Escorts and a Targa prepped Renault Clio...I did not build on my nice 4th position of round 1 and ended up 8th of 9 entries.

Ferrall Duck racing dragged their communal IPRA spec Daihatsu Charade Detomaso down for a friend to use and we had great fun swapping our co-drivers around.

Run 1 was a bit of a mess but turned out to be one of the faster runs of the night. I have got a new set of race pads in and I thought they were bedded in properly but they were very snatchy.
I pushed far to hard going in to a very tight, right hand hair pin and understeered straight in to the dirt and just missed taking out a 44 gallon drum. The car generally felt very loose on this run. Maybe I was trying to be to aggressive.
No idea how this run managed to be the 2nd quickest!! A friend of mine is co-driving this one.

All the videos were taken with my new Drift HD camera with remote microphone down behind the drivers seat. The videos can be watched in 1080p.

Run 2 with Geoff Duckworth on board. With many legions of fans clamouring at the trackside we gave them some entertainment going down the drag strip.

Run 3 back with my friend on board.

Ashly Barnett was floating around and jumped in for the final and fastest run of the night.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Absolutely come and have a chin wag Mr Bender! I try but I'm by no means perfect!

Nice picture there, the cross is on the numbers as I unfortunately had to drop out of round 4 due to an inept me putting a new engine mount on incorrectly. The cross was to let others know to not wait for me to line up.

Next round is March 7th!

Clutch and flywheel are in thanks to a monumental amount of effort and help from tinscfi.

The go fast stuff is very much nearly finished, I started Sunday arvo and have done 2-3 hours a night since then. I just need to swap the injectors and fuel pump for the new ones and hook up the computer...something about 'connecting to the oxy sensor signal wire' in the instructions?!

I have got the bumper and under tray off so I will have to try and remember how that all goes back together. I think the undertray will need some trimming and there are some wires to tidy up.

The car will be up and running on the weekend assuming it all works!!
