"EDIT: I've bumped everyone off the list that hasn't contacted me about payment
If your having trouble scratching the cash togeather or need some more time, PM me or you'll be bumped. Cheers.

Thats right folks, it's on again. Last years event was a blast, this years will be much BIGGER!

Here's the relevent info....

Ozmazda.com DECA day is on October 26th 2008

The event will be held on Sunday the 26th of October and the cost will be about $150 and that includes full lunch, drinks and snacks.
We'd like to limit this to about 35 cars. You'll have plenty of time behind your wheel as the two events will be run at the same time.

For those heading up, get ready for a great time. It's an open event, so friends and spectators are very welcome (probably best to leave the kids at home). Great for first timers and those that want to sharpen their driving skills and want to test their car in a safe and legal fashion.
On the day we will be running a 'Motorkhana' and an 'Average time' event.
The 'Motorkhana' is conducted on the flat skid pan, and the 'Average time' event will be conducted on the Highway circuit.

The day will be professionally captured by a photographer; with the images will being freely available to the participants after the event. There will also be video shot throughout the day which we will edit up for the participants to download not long after the event.

Where is it?

DECA or Driver Education Centre of Australia is located in Shepparton, on Wanganui Rd just off the Goulburn Valley Highway. It's about 180ks from Melbourne or just under 2 hours.

What is a Motorkhana event?

Motorkhanas are motor sport events designed to test the acceleration, braking and handling of cars and the skill and judgment of drivers. Most importantly, motorkhanas provide fun and enjoyment whilst practising and learning car control. Oversteer and understeer will be found in abundance, but at safe speeds under controlled conditions.
A day's event consists of a number of 'tests', these pre-determined layouts will be available before the day. Cars compete one at a time, always starting and finishing in designated "garages".

Each 'test' takes from 15 to 60 seconds to complete and is defined by Witches hats. Hitting Witches hats or going the wrong way incur time penalties which are added to the total time. Our Motorkhana event on the day will include 6 to 8 'tests'.
Vehicle speed rarely exceeds 60 km/h (37 mph) but the tightness of the tests ensures the driver is kept very busy.

I find the best way to learn the courses is to watch the couple of cars in front of you and then just follow what they did. No big deal if you mess up, just try again the next time. You will not be the only one if you mess up. Even the most experienced motorkhana campaigner gets unstuck on the skidpan's a great leveler and fun event for everyone irrelevant of skill level of the driver

What is an Average time event?

The 'Average time' event is NOT a speed event. The Highway Circuit will be speed restricted to 80 kph on the day.
Each competitor will do a lap of the Highway circuit. The lap is timed and put on the board. Each competitor must then try to do the exact same time as they did previously. For example:
John Smith does a lap of the course in 1min 23 seconds. The next lap John Smith does, he must get 1 min 23 seconds again. If he goes under or over that time, he gets penalised.
Whoever gets the closest to their 'Average time' wins.

The layout:

What to do

Before you leave home, you'll need to take everything unnecessary out of your car so to avoid leaving it in the car park all day. Bring only necessary items. Things to bring to make your day more enjoyable will be Sunscreen, hat, sunnies and a rain coat might be good. You may want to consider some camping chairs for friends or partners.

You must have a current Australian drivers licence. Your car must be registered and your car must be in Roadworthy condition, with all loose items in the boot and cabin removed.

There will be motorkhana course notes given out on the day; also once you make your payment we will email you the notes so you can study them before the event.

PAYMENT FOR DECA IS NOW DUE. Please deposit $150.00 into the OzMazda.com account and quote your "OZM" user name, once you have done this please PM me, once the payment has gone through I will updat the below list. It is $150.00 per person. Account details are:
