Re: The Weekly Vic MX-5 Meet-up!
Asians know how to use leverage (buy the longest breaker bar you can find like 2m, then buy a piece of pipe to make it longer)
I find jacking the car up putting the breaker bar onto the nut then lowering the car's weight to push down onto the breaker bar helps undo difficult bolts, works well enough for exhaust bolts lug nuts etc.
But if you can't use the weight of the car to turn the tool or use a trolley jack to help turn the tool ie the bolt is on the wrong axis (eg sub frame bolts). I usually have to cut off the bolts with the angle grinder drill it out and buy new nuts and bolts.

Only Wun needs an angle grinder.
If he was manly he'd cut it off with a razor blade.

okay, so I managed to get those 2 bolts off with relative ease. I guess it does help to have 2x body mass as compared to my Asian brother..haha!
however having trouble getting the exhaust off the hangers. I've gone through the threads from miata.net and they mentioned using WD40 or spraying dishwashing liquid to lubricate the hangers, and using a tweezer-nose plier (which I don't have) but I'm finding it a little tough to get some leverage to slip them out. Of the 3, I've only managed to slip one out (one closer to the muffler tip).. Anybody have any advice or would like to swing by to lend a hand?

Yeah use soap and a screwdriver, oh yeah I forgot I used a G clamp it helped me to squeeze the rubber off the hanger....

Wd40 works well and then just slip a screwdriver down the hole to lever it wider. It's just that little button bit on the end of the hanger that's the problem. Once that is in the hanger it should come out easy. Unfortunately persistance is the key.

I used the cheat's method. Because I'm replacing everything with new in my build, I just sliced them off with a razor blade.

Haha.. ok, Pam.
I don't have any replacement rubber hangers thing so no cheat method for me..
Ok, I'll try again later tonight. Thought I'd score a win with the bolts till I got floored by the hangers. Currently sporting a sore back so probably hindering movement a bit.. /grumble

Seriously though, lots and lots of WD or soapy water should do the trick. They can be a pain.
(If you get really, really frustrated, you can get them new for about $4 each at most car shops. Or if you like breaking things for the sheer fun of it like I do!

You need to get under the car a bit more often. You're a bit soft

Pamex: I am seriously contemplating your cheat method, UGPM..haha!
Meanmx: That's not a nice way to tell a person he is fat..haha! but ok, I will try again
KevGoat: Well it's not as bad as your back, but still a little annoyance since I tweaked a muscle when I was hauling out trash for hard rubbish week.

I'm in no position to call anyone fat. Maybe a better term is that you are a delicate flower

Re: The Weekly Vic MX-5 Meet-up!
Shuey, if you've got a set of open ended spanners you can use them to help pry the rubbers off.
I braced one against the hanger, and the other I put the open end spanner bit onto the back of the rubber and levered the two spanners against each other.
Once the mushroomed head of the exhaust hanger has popped past the opening in the rubber it should be easier to slide it off.
I'd recommend dishwashing liquid as lube, it's thicker than WD40 so sticks a bit better.
you can also rinse it off easily.
