Too wet for me today...
Man, I've been looking forward to this, but I can't hack driving around with the roof up for too long. Anyhoo, I want to get a UHF radio and need to know what power/range I need ie 5km, 8km, 12km?
What do most people use on these runs?

5km will probably suit just fine for cruise applications, you don't want to get that far away from the pack anyways
Just keep in mind that the range of a UHF is for line of sight. Buildings and hills will interfere with range.
I personally use a 5W UHF for cruises (when I remember to take it
) which I estimate to have a range of around 15kms. Doesn't do me much good since everyone else has 3W or less UHFs, just means that they can hear me when I'm +10kms away, but I can't hear them

Thanks Peter and Kim for organising run today.
Always nice to get out of town.
The view of the misty cliffs looking north from the bridge was great.
Too bad I can't drive and take photos simultaneously.
