MX 5 CLUB NSW DOUBLE EVENT SATURDAY – 2 MAY 2009
EVENT #1 – FAST BREAKIE & SPIN from 7.30 am
Meet: McDonalds corner of New Line & Old Northern Roads, Dural.
Time: 7.00 am for 7.15 am briefing, leaving at 7.30 am sharp. Late starters meet up with the run for breakfast at Spencer.
Distance: 200 kilometres with an optional and shorter 140 kilometre run with a finish to coincide with the scheduled start of Coffee & Lies at the Pie in the Sky at 10.30 am.
Details : Your choice of two routes with a brisk early drive for MX5 drivers who enjoy to run ‘A’ &’ B’ roads before the punters get out of bed and into their cars to clog up some great, quite (not always smooth) and twisty roads north of Wiseman’s Ferry.
Starting from Dural the route takes you first over and then along the north bank of the Hawkesbury River across to the Spencer Village Store for a fast breakfast before a quick run up alongside Mangrove Creek to Mangrove Mountain and Peats Ridge.
At Mangrove Mountain choose either a quick drive back via Peat’s Ridge and F3 back to the Pie (about 45 minutes) or a longer more technical run up to and then down the Yarramalong Valley to meet the F3 for your drive back to the Pie via Peat’s Ridge (around 1.5 hours).
The route will reluctantly avoid the recently designated 60 mph Old Princes Highway between Calga and Mooney Mooney that includes some fondly remembered twisty sections with their now ever present weekend Highway Patrol double act pursuing unwary motor cyclists and MX5ers. The route takes in the hill climb up the old highway to the Pie in the Sky from Brooklyn for a later arrival for Coffee & Lies.
Duration: ETA to the Pie in the Sky for the shorter run (140 klm) is by 10.30 am with a later arrival time for those choosing to drive back through the Yarramalong Valley (200 klm) at around 11.30 am.
Further Information (Run Sheet, Route Map, Breakfast Menu etc.,) see Forum postings from 1 April 2009.
NB for possible cancellation due to an adverse weather forecast check the Forum on the evening before the run after 8.00pm. It is neither safe nor fun to drive over the proposed routes on wet roads. Breakfast at the Spencer Village Store in the rain is not a preferred Saturday morning activity
RSVP: Not required, just turn up. No pre-registration, just turn up
Organiser: MJS
EVENT #2 – COFFEE & LIES from 10.30 am
Meet : Pie In the Sky, Old Pacific Highway, Cowan.
Time: Starting from 10.30 am. No pre-registration, just turn up
If an early breakfast run on a Saturday morning, after a hard week or heavy Friday night, is not your thing then take a little time out with a mid morning and leisurely 20 kilometre drive north from Hornsby on the Old Pacific Highway to the Pie in the Sky Café at Cowan overlooking the F3 and the Hawkesbury River.
Relax and enjoy the company of other members of your club and guests to exchange MX5 stories and techno stuff about our favourite marque over a coffee or non-alcoholic beverage of your choice. Don’t forget to try one or more of the café’s well known savoury or fruit pies.
Duration: The MX5 Club nominates the start time of 10.30 am. You decide when it finishes.
