After many requests for a repeat of my run through the NSW Snowy Mountains in 2004 planning has now started for Targa De-Alpine 2 to be held on 7th/8th March 2009. For those unfortunate to have missed the inaugural run it's an epic 880km journey, spread over 2 days, touring around the south east corner of NSW, enjoying some great roads in the company of a swag of MX5's and their owners who love driving doing what they do best, having fun.
Mark it in your diaries and watch out for upcoming editions of Club Events and on here for more information. It's still a long way away but from the reaction from the group that went with me last time it'll be worth the wait.

This should sit nicely before our planned trip overseas to drive the Stelvio Pass

It's a great run but it's going to pale into insignificance compared to driving the Stelvio Pass.

Well what a weekend. Close to 900km in 2 days. Perfect weather apart from a few showers early Saturday and late Sunday. I hope it's the same in March. All the roads are just as good as they were last time with stuff all traffic as per usual. Unfortunately my car is still suffering altitude sickness though the new tune is a big improvement over the last tune. I'll apologise in advance to the people behind me for the soot shower. Poor rjastra had trouble seeing where he was going in the Polo a few times. Fuel economy ranged from a best of 7L/100km on the freeway cruise to a worst of 10.3L/100km through one of the fun bits, but I was having LOTS of fun on that bit. Not bad for a backyard turbo job that was running a bit rough at times I thought. But of course rjastras Polo APR tuned GTI did better. We matched eached other on the cruise section but he used a massive 4L less than my car through the mountain stage. There's a lot to be said for factory tuning.
The motel is booked and the run sheet is done, everything is sorted. Bring on March 7th.

Bit early for that yet Craig. Watch club events over the coming months.
Oh, in true Targa De-Alpine tradition another pshyco bird decided to end it all at the front of my car.

Make it during the ski season so those that are so inclined can ditch passengers and bring skis/snowboards along instead

I'm guessing that was you guys I saw around Kiandra as I was going home from Canberra today, then. Well met!. Still 5 or 6 MX-5's is a fair number for a reccy.
Cheers,
Alf

Marcus, one of the roads we are going on is closed during the ski season which makes it a bit awkward.
Nope wasn't us Alf. The reccy run consisted of one lonely black SP with a silver Polo GTI right up it's bum. We missed seeing the other guys. I wonder if the ACT group was out and about. We did see a few MX5's in our travels but all were travelling by themselves. I dont remember seeing a red SE though.

I'm totally in!
And don't worry Marcusus, there's always the opportunity to go on a separate Snow Trip in winter - To which I also say yes!
