NSW CAMS Come and Try - tomorrow - Sat 18th Jan

Postby YanMa YatTai » Fri Jan 17, 2014 11:12 am

Anyone going to the CAMS Come and Try day tomorrow at SMP? Anyone actually know what is going on in terms of start times? I am assuming I will get directions where to go when I first enter a gate to SMP?

I have registered, however no information has been received as to when it starts.
I had to chase them for rego forms as there was nothing on the web site for ages. Then I had to ring them (after an email with no response) to confirm my entry had been received. I asked about details to which they replied I will receive something this week. Well, its Friday and nothing! I have emailed and left voicemail.

They are hopeless! Are CAMS always this super organised?
I am doing this day as I am contemplating entering the Supersprint rounds this year. As a newbie I would like some hand holding, but they seem so disorganised.

Had this been an event by the MX5 club everything would be organised! I am already set for the club track day in Feb with all the rego/confirmation/info done! 8)

Can't help you with information on the Come & Try day, sorry.
However, I am helping to co-ordinate 2014 Supersprint entries by MX-5 Club of NSW members, and I am happy to talk to you about supersprints if you want.
Fell free to PM or call me.

It is unfortunate that the organisation of this event has not been up to the standards of previous years. I just phoned the CAMS office and was told that Doreen is currently working on an email that will be sent out later today. If you don't hear from CAMS within the next couple hours, I suggest you give her (another) phone call on 0417 363 126 or 1300 883 959 if you get voicemail. If you still don't hear anything, then I suggest you aim to arrive at the track by around 8:30am and hope for the best.

Enter via the gate shown at point A on the following Google map. At point B, you need to turn left and possibly stop at the gate (there will be a guard). After that, continue straight ahead, drive through the tunnel and park behind the pit garages.

Have a read of page 28 in Club Torque Autumn 2012 to get an idea of how the day is likely to work.

Thanks for the response guys. If I dont hear from them I do intend to just rock up outside a gate around 8am and fumble around till I find someone.

I wonder how many people will be turning up with the chaos? Maybe next time they should allow more time after New Years so they can have more time to organise themselves?

If we (me, the missus and the car) survive we will be going on the Putty Rd run on Sunday, so would love to catch up with you at brekky Bryan.

David if you will be at the club track day on 2 Feb I will come chat to you. If not I will call you some time after the event.

Many thanks guys. I know I can trust fellow club members to help out a SMP and Supersprint virgin.

Correct!
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

How did that big blue thing get there?

Add water at a track and mx5's seem to sprout everywhere!

I was there on Saturday as well, not on the track though, as my wife was the one registered for the Come and Try. She had a ball, specially at the Motorkhana experience on the Skidpan. She did not enjoy the Supersprint so much, as anything above 140km/h was too scary for her, so she would just lift off the throttle half way down the main straight and let the car coast the rest of the way...

You must have been in a group that started later in the day, as I did not see any other MX5 around when my wife started in the Red group (7:30am start). She surely faced some tough competition!
