League of Extraordinary Camera-Fives [Brisbane]

Hi all! As most of you know, I've been looking to get a little photo-club together for regular informal photography runs about the place. We had our first little meeting last month and it went pretty well, but I think it would have benefited from a bit of organization on the organizers part...

So here it is, look at me go!!

Basically this thread is planned to be a home for us to discuss locations, meet ups, cameras, styles; whatever. (I wasn't sure what section for it to be put in, so if someone feels the need to move it - please do!)

Hopefully our next run will be within the next few weeks. Due to my rotating work, it isn't the easiest for me to find a night/day that is of normal-working peoples schedules. But I'll do my best, promise!!

As the wise Crapweasel once said, "If you have a car, it'll have pictures taken of it. If you have a camera, you can take the pictures!"

It doesn't matter what type of car you have (the majority will be fives, of course) or what type of camera (Hell, if you don't have one - buy a disposable for the night!) we would love to have you come with us :)

In for the next run for sure!

I'm a fan of the evening shoots, brings something different to the mix than the usual daytime number of fives lined up on the grass or in a carpark at a club run.

Also presents the opportunity to be a little more creative lighting wise.

I think one of the next shoots should be at Kangaroo Point cliffs, using the city as a backdrop, the Ernst & Young building on the left is looking quite good these days:

Sounds like a plan to me. I rarely do static cars anymore, but I'll give it another go.

You'll probably be able to teach us all a thing or two, aswell

I'll keep everyone posted when something comes up :) I'm working stupid hours for the next fortnight, so the next run probably won't be til after Christmas :)

So I've been thinking of a few creative things for us to do with this group!
We just need to work out when, where and what now :)

I've got one shot I really want to line up. Getting a photo of my Silver NA reflecting on the side of a Black NA. The black NA will have to be super shiny though :P

Whos keen for a shot in the next month or so?

Hope you've got a good spot picked out, that's going to be HARD. You need to find somewhere dark enough for there to be almost no other reflections, then get a good strong flash onto the silver NA, and manually get the focus right. Plus get the silver car positioned perfectly so it's actually visible.

If I'm free whenever you plan on doing it I'll probably come along and bring most of my gear. Got 3 flashes with remote triggers, a pair of flash stands, a 1DMkIV and a couple of good lenses. I think I will go out tonight to a nice, dark industrial area tonight and see if I know how to use my flashes properly. It's been a while since I did, and then it was on a white car, nothing dark.

No spot yet, but we'll find one!!
I got the idea after admiring Scarletts reflection on the side of the missus Dualis :P

No idea when this will go ahead yet, but we can work around every ones dates and find one to suit us all :)

I've had a few offers of people letting us use their yards, and more equipment (We will need to get our hands on a generator/super long extension cords) so we should be looking at a pretty interesting and creative time.

Get some baby oil to wipe down the black car with and make sure you can get a lot of difussed light onto the silver car and possibly a black background on the silver car.
