Would like to adjust/improve my idling too. Thought this was a 'paper clip' reset job but think there might be a screw adjustment now so will do some more investigating.
What's the consensus here? 10, 12, 14? (Qld, running on Caltex 95)
- pick an y of these Penrite gearbox oils:
http://search.supercheapauto.com.au/search?w=penrite%20gear%2090You only need a 2.5L bottle for the gearbox and I have spare Nulon stuff for your diff.
- replacing turret oil is easy and can be done any time.
- Re timing: when you're on the track, do you rev the engine all the way to redline all the time? If yes, then I'd stick to base timing of 10, maybe go to 12.
If you short-shift before 6,000RPM, or if you simply want to try what a higher advance feels like, then I would even go to 15 or 16 as it will give you more oomph in the low and mid-range and may be quite advantageous at the hill-climb.
16deg BTDC should be ok with 95RON, but any higher I would use 98.
Don't be afraid to try higher advance because the Yanks base their testing on the best average RON they are likely to get, and many places you can't get more than 91RON, so they are always conservative based on lower spec fuel.
Lokiel, this is probably a rhetorical question, do you have a timing light?
