Goddamn. Oil, or fuel?
I believe the valve stem seals may be going. Was it after cruising and then getting on the throttle that it happened? Pulling the head to do the valve stem seals would be much easier than worn piston rings!
It is a 16yr old motor, I guess I can forgive it if it's having a couple of hiccups. I guess it just means I'd better hurry up with the rebuild of the original engine block.

I was actually thinking valve stem seals at the time. It was at its worst when coming on the throttle after coasting on a downslope.
Not a fresh oil smell though, more of a smokey, powdery kind of smell. Black smoke as well. It's probably also running rich too I expect?
