Awww, bugger

So only 2 weeks away from the MX5CQ Trackday that I have been hanging out for - and this happened this morning:Image
What should I do? Try to get someone to weld it up and cross my fingers? Do not currently have enough "man points" aggregated to lodge a submission with the Minister for War & Finance for a Twistmount.
Stupid crazy long shot, but there isn't anyone out there with a spare AVO manifold they could sell/lend? Heh, heh...
to quote Ferris Bueller - "anyone... anyone... anyone?"

... or even just some half-hearted sympathy would help ease the pain. Typed "cracked AVO manifold Miata" into Google, and the internets lit up!

It's the weekend, and the weather on the east coast has been great. Everyone is most likely in their car rather than on this forum. Give them time.

Hey thanks StillC, was beginning to think I one cared! But the thought of mx5s all up the coast running around with tops down - that's a cheery one

Maybe instead of commiserating, post up how awesome your drive was this weekend, I'll live vicariously through others...

Hey Magpie, I knew your overriding optimism would not be far away! I am trying to take it off today (those middle nuts are a ##$%!*) - I am seriously tempted to try the ol' BBQ method, just to get to the club day on the 15th. At least my hotside dissassembly skills will improve. :D
Is it possible to nurse it home 100kms if/when it cracks again?

Happy to help :) My 'optimism' also says that I live 13km drive from QR (6km as the crow flies) and have a trailer...

I'm just jealous because I have no boost :)

Weld it up as a temporary fix and get a new log or twistmount when you can.

Hey thanks Magpie, a generous backup plan! Yep Speed, trying hard to get it off in one piece, but at the moment, the middle nuts underneath are so rusted and rounded - I'm starting to think that cutting or drilling is necessary? Because the log bulges over the nut, can't even get a ringy or nut-cutter on there. Open-Endy only as far as I can seeImage

It is a bugger of a place to get to. I had to grind down a ring spanner to fit mine. Yours is worse since the nut is rounding.

So it took 5 hours yesterday afternoon, but finally it came off. Had to bust out the old dremel ninja skills to cut two of the studs, but all the manifold studs backed out fine, so all good there. Cracked it properly though - right through the turbo flange, up both sides. The only thing not cracked is the head flangeImage

I have had success welding these before by veeing crack out, putting in oven till bloody hot, then welding them and resurface both flanges. What area are u in?
