EBC - Red or Yellow?

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has recently run EBC Reds or Yellow and their impressions. Has anyone cooked a set on the track/road?
I'm bedding in a set of reds now and want to know if buying yellows are worthwhile backup for an upcoming Tarmac Rally (GT Sports Trophy class is speed limited to 130km/h).

Thanks,

Rob

Have you considered A1RM's or Winmax W3's https://www.facebook.com/motorsportbrakes/?fref=ts ?

No and yes. The Winmax I am seeing quite a few positive reports on. To be honest, I've only gone for EBC on account of the fact I've run them on sports bikes before and they are a reputable brand (especially from UK websites). Obviously there's going to be compromises in terms of wear/noise/cold performance etc. Any of the decent brands are probably fine. There's good and bad reports on them all.

MX5s don't seem to be notoriously heavy on their brakes. For the event i'm keen to find something that performs from cold as it's not like you have a warm up lap in a tarmac rally and some stages are quite short <10km. Then they'll need to still be able to stand up to some lengthy punishment on longer stages. A lot to ask, but the Sports Trophy category is limited to 130km/h top speeds so there'll be no pull downs from 200-50km/h etc but there will be repeated 130-50km slowing.

EBC suggest their reds are good for track days etc on cars to 200bhp. Kind of fits with my expectations. I guess i'm just after endorsement to suggest people have used them on track days and they don't cook/glaze after a few laps of fun in an MX5 (or even if EBC Yellow are still not quite as good as it says on the box). Would be good to know that i'm not eating through rotors in one event aswell.

EBC Yellows are intended for trackwork so are probably overkill - I'd be more worried about how well they functioned when cold.
I've used EBC Reds on the track in a 150rwkw SE and they were OK (used in my first 2 ever trips to the track so definitely wasn't pushing as hard as more experienced guys would).

I have cooked ebc reds with a stock power mx5. Granted, it was at QR which is notoriously heavy on brakes, but still. Weren't good enough for me.

Thanks guys! Looks like I will buy a set of yellow for the front in any case (even just as insurance) and i'll have to find time to give the car a bit of a shakedown under similar conditions to see if the reds hold up.
