Jesse's NA6 from the south

For years I have wanted an NA-Mx-5 for my first car and last week I finally found mine. I had been saving for a long while prior (which is hard when your still in school).
So i went and checked it out and ended up driving it home!

The car is a 1990 NA6 and was pretty much stock when I purchased it.
It came with a terrible head unit and DVD player that barely works, but the car did some with a brand new one, so I'll be swapping them out soon!

I am absolutely loving the way this car feels to drive, I feel so connected with it!
I will be posting more updates as soon as more progress takes shape!

Welcome. I wish I had bought an MX5 as my first car! Where abouts in SA are you? Occasionally some of us organise casual meets if you're interested.

Thanks guys, I'm located pretty far south, about an hour from Adelaide, I would love to meet some other cars/owners, where abouts do you meet?

18/9/15

Today I picked up some original tail lights as the car came with some clear aftermarket ones that were just.. Well...

Super easy, 10 screws and some electrical loom plugs.. Did have to replace the bulbs in the new lights, luckily I had a friend who had some and the new lights were straight in!

Looking a lot better!
(Not hiding the number plate, the White was messing up with the flash, iPhone cameras eh'?!)

Welcome to the obsession Jesse.

I had to wait until my first fulltime job before I could afford my own car, well done for working hard and saving well.

Try and get involved in your local MX-5 club, there's a lot of experienced drivers who will show you your cars limits somewhere safe like a race track so you don't try and discover them on the road.

I'd also handy to know a few local MX-5 owners if you ever have a drama with your car and need to swap sensors over between cars to track down the issues.

Thanks a tonne Okibi, are you referring to my thread about my CAS?
How expensive is it to fix? I think my rocker cover is leaking also..

Nope I hadn't seen the CAS thread.

If oil is leaking from your cam cover onto any of the rubber hoses (especially the heater hoses at the back of the head) they won't last long and could leave you stranded somewhere or overheat and kill the engine.

Ah okay, ill take it to the mechanic as I'm not too sharp on engines, will I have to buy a seal?

Jesse, these links may help a little with that leak:

Valve cover gasket replacement

Cas O-Ring replacement

A lot of other maintenance information here:

Miata.net Garage

On my NA6 I use to periodically tighten all the valve cover bolts very slightly and that would stop the leaks for a while. Just don't over tighten them or you will distort the gasket. But I did eventually have to replace the CAS O-ring and the gasket.

These are great cars to learn some DIY with all the articles online. I'd done very little on cars before, apart from basic servicing, but I've learned heaps over the last few years of MX-5 ownership. There's usually someone on here who can lend a hand or some guidance, so don't be afraid to call out for any help
