Hey all
First post on mx5cartalk, so hello! Joined up recently as I am looking at buying a NB off a friend of mine, am a bit of a petrolhead so naturally forums are the go for making new friends and finding info
yes I am 6"4' and lanky so most people think I would be way too big for an mx5
bit of history/photos as i know it's always interesting
i'm 23, still at uni (changed degrees, time off for travelling yada yada so a bit behind) and living in sydney
Bought a subaru liberty (6spd man, 3L boxer 6) as my first car, 2.5 years, 50000-odd kms on it, a lot of fun, lots of modifications, tinkering and learning (including a DIY vinyl wrap as you can see in photos!. coils/wheels/sways, grilles, spoilers/lips, lights, interior touches, headers/mids/3-4 sets of mufflers, tune, you name it i probably did it). stupidly sold it (as they've lost barely any value since i sold it at the beginning of 2013) to buy a depreciating euro-mobile BMW 135i
whiiiiiich was a lot of fun. worked a lot all summer before to afford it (still had to finance half!), promised myself i was buying it to save money on not doing modifications (which I did follow, only changed the wheels and put a tune on it...hello 240 rwkw. amazing engines).
unfortunately the money saved on "not modifying it" went towards depreciation as this fine car cost me $8k in depreciation for just 8 months of ownership. sold it as i moved out of home to the inner city area, and could walk to work and uni so couldn't afford to keep it.
I've been car-less for almost 10 months now, borrowing friends ones occasionally and using goget also, but have recently just really wanted to have a car and some freedom again. A mate i know from school is selling his NB once his NA is turbocharged, so curious to drive one I went and took it for a spin and was instantly hooked. borrowed it again to test it out on a longer highway drive and all was good comfort-wise, so have committed to buying it!
will get it in january sometime, and probably going to try refrain from modifications (except maybe a nice set of wheels!)
hopefully will be able to get along to meetups/drive days when I can as well
Cheers, Ed
blue lips at one stage for shits and gigs...copped so much attention and hate hahah
