MX5 Version 2.5, Another SE thread

Postby danman » Sun Apr 13, 2014 10:12 pm

So today we managed to replace the written off NA8 today with one of these.

This is what happened to the NA8 after it's altercation with a Hilux that turned right into my path. As you will red elsewhere lots of bits off this car are now for sale so if you need anything feel free to ask.

Was not really what we were looking for as the intent was to replace eh red car with a cheap fun car but the price was to good to say no to. Spent the day cleaning and bonding. Doesn't punch quite as hard as I was expecting. Car is nowhere near immaculate but does add a smile to the dial.

Also had our first problems. The intake pipe blew off after I gave it a little poke. Not heaps of an issue as we were close to home. Just need to keep an eye on it though.

Seems as though teh previous owners never drove at night. One High beam and one low beam globes are blown.

No worries. Just do the usual main beam plus foglights regardless of other traffic or whether it's foggy. This must be legal because everyone with a blown headlight seems to do it.
UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

Congrats Dan and Bianca, hope to get a chance to drop around sometime this week.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Congratulations!

Good to see another Ti SE hereabouts, the inlet pipe blowing off is a known issue and fairly easily fixed and the lack of punch also has a well defined rectification path (albeit at a cost).

What size are those wheels, they look even bigger than the factory 17" units?

Don't forget to add your name to the SE owner's list.

Yeah had read about the pipe blowing off last week. Still was some panic as it happened as we wondered if we'd bought a did. Have put it back on and given it a nip up and we will see what happens. Now have a 10mm spanner in the car.

Rims are the standard size. Haven't weighed them yet but they are easy to clean :)

Ok hoping someone can help. Went and bought new globes today. Changed the drivers side main beam and even with the new globe it seems as though there is no light being emitted. If you get down low you can see that the globe is working but just not projecting light forward. Anyone got any thoughts on how to fix?

I could probably bring over an entire headlight and see if the issue is with the globe, the alignment or the wiring.

After messing around with globes, changing the alignment ad thinking I was going to need to check the cabling run, I went and checked the fuse for interest sake. The Right hand fuse was missing. A quick swap over with the LHS (I had no spare 10A micro fuses at home) showed that was the problem. I was surprised that there was a fuse that controlled main and high beam only (not parkers). A quick run to repco tomorrow will have that sorted.

I fitted the BEGI bend last week, a big difference in spool up and throttle response. I also have a silicone elbow to intercooler pipe which I will fit tomorrow.
Cheers

Went to fit the BEGI intake this evening ad it seems as though they have sent the wrong one as it had an 'extra' threaded pick up on the right hand side and missing the large fitting on teh right hand side. Not happy but we will see ow BEGI deal with the issue
