Wade's NA6

Noob here from sydney. Just picked up a totally stock NA6 with 345k on the clock.

It has full log books and I got it off the first owner.

Body is in excellent condition and mechanically it is OK, though the 1.6 is a little tired and the car floats like a boat (is that normal??)

Shocks feel fine but I think the springs may have gone a little soft

Plan to turn it into a track car..... Starting fairly stock and probably upping the ante as I go along.

I have been running a Clio 172 for the last couple of years in the CSCA supersprint series which has been fun and I'm hoping to improve my RWD track skills with this little beast

I'll update this thread with updates as the little beast goes on its development journey

And one of the Clio for good measure

Yep probably will...... The mx will be slooooow...... But that's part of the journey

I'd be interested to see how my Clio fares against some of the Mx's as well...!!!

Can you please tell me about your Clio experience?
Always wanted one but have been scared off due to frenchness.
I know all about them... But would like to hear some honest feedback from someone who has been punting one hard for a few years... Rather than from someone who goes for a leisurely drive on a weekend.

And congrats on the na6. One owner and 345k kms. Amasing stuff.

I got my Clio as the last delivered 172 in Aus, shipped over from WA..... I wanted to be able to save weight by removing the spare wheel ;-)

I competed in Motorsport from the first week I got it and also did lots of night runs through the nasho etc ..... This car has been drĂven hard its whole life

The flip side is that I have always had it serviced by the best Renault mechanics in syd .......the most important thing is to ensure that the belts are done when required (both by time and K's), belt failure is terminal....

Otherwise these cars are fairly bombproof....

Stock they are great, but with some fairly cheap & sensible mods they fly and are very adjustable at the limit, heaps of fun.

So first bit of good news is the track wheels off my Clio fit.....

Also the shocks seems to be fairly new..... Does anyone know what they are?

Are they just stock, or is it impossible to tell....

The shocks look to me like Tokico Shocks.

Once a popular cheap shock in the US.
I believe they are still available.

Are they still the stock springs?

Yeah and they are soooo soft ....... Especially in the rear end..... This is something I will look at, but really want to take it to the track stock so I can appreciate the mods 8)

A dead stock NA6 can still do ok in the right hands.

If you look up the club President, GURAN (bryan) you will see what a stock NA6 can do.

He has done a best of 1.:14.9 i believe with RSpecs at Wakefield.

The videos are great to watch, as he has developed a quite odd driving style that is both entertaining and necessary to get the car to rotate :D

Wow he is really throwing it around isn't he.....lol

That's pretty quick ..... Not sure my very tired 1.6 and springs will get me even close to that.....

Took I for a run today with the a048's from the Clio on it and they totally transformed the car, more so than on the Clio...... Very happy, turn in is a lot sharper and they even improved the lame brakes to an acceptable level....

On the topic of brakes, what pad is everyone running?

I swear by the padgid yellows in the Clio, but that seems like overkill....what about DS2500's??

isn't it handy to have your two track cars share the same wheels..? 8)
