Adam's gone back to basics - NA6 Roadster

Hey ladies and gents, it's been a while since I've been on this forum so I'm sure there are a lot of new faces on here!

My names Adam, I'm 24 and I'm from Sydney. My first car was a 2000 NB8A which I had for roughly 6 years it was an awesome car, and I had a ton of great experiences in it.

Here's some pics of it for those who haven't seen it.

I ended up stripping it down and going for something a little more odd ball ... a Nissan Stagea. Factory auto and AWD within the 2 and a half duration of ownership I converted it into a full blown drifter. A wolf in sheep's clothing if you will.

I ended up selling it to pay off some debts, and plan to finally purchase my first home. Somewhere inbetween I got this bucket of sh*t. Long story short, I bought it, the engine let go within 2 months so I got it rebuilt, only for it to fail again. I ended up parting the car out.

After the Stagea I picked up another R33, this one was rather simple and a pleasure to drive.

Image

I got over it though and somehow ended up with a S13 shell. Got over that too and bought a friends R33 which blew up the next day, but I ended up swapping it for another friends R33 as he was quitting drifting.

I cleaned it up and it looked like this:

Unfortunately it was a little rough for my liking and needed some work + a fresh coat of paint. I also knew as soon as I drove it out of my area I'd get the book through at me. So I decided to sell it and get something simple and enjoyable to drive again .... and give drifting a rest for a while too.

So I had a look around, and weighed up options on the next car. I was getting over Nissan, a few of the cars I had in the past gave me plenty of heart ache and drama. I did want to swing over to Toyota but nothing really jumped at me. Then I thought, maybe it's time for a another MX5/Roadster.

So I started searching on here, ebay, gumtree and carsales for a couple of weeks. There were some examples I was interested in, but one really caught my eye. a 1990 classic red NA6 that appeared to be in great condition.

Image

I arranged to meet the owner and take the car for a spin. It was great! low kms, drives well, and was a good price. So I snapped it up and headed home.

Image

I went through Old pac as a detour and it felt really nice around the corners and noticed that the "factory torsen LSD" wasn't so factory.

Image

It more feels like a 1.5 way LSD which I'm certinally not complaining about! it also has some strange coilover setup. KYB like shocks with a sleeve to allow adjustment via preload.

Image

At the moment there are no major plans for my Roadster, but in good time things will happen to it.

Welcome back mate. You've been busy while you were away.

I do love a good Stagea. I gather they share a fair few parts with Skylines and other C-chassis Nissans, so are they pretty easy to find performance parts for?

Indeed I have, probably the second best car I've owned ... the Stagea. It was awesome in the end, 280kw, manual, 2 way LSD, few bracing mods. Was a perfect "all round car" looked cool, could carry 5 people, heck I'd carry 3 sets of wheels/tyres, all my tools and still be comfortable driving to the track with passengers.

The C34 Stageas do share many parts with the R33/R34 range. Engines are either from the S2 R33 or R34. You can use a GTR gearbox on AWD models to convert to manual. AWD floor plan is very similar to R33 GTR. RWD Stageas are McPherson strut not double wish bone, and have a similar floorplan to the S/C Chassis.

Some parts are more specific, like cat back exhausts due to the length of the car (although you can use a R33/R34 one and extend it) and the shock/spring setup. Due to the weight in the rear end (all that glass) they have different spring rates and valving to a R33/R34.

I'd like to say yes, but most likely not. Things will just be slower this time around.

Maybe, or I could do an engine conversion I've always dreamed of doing. But that's a long while away

So I've bought a few things for the little Roadster.

Garage Vary front lip
R package rear lip
New wheels that'll be wrapped in some Advan AD08Rs
Clear reflectors and indicators
ARC intake

and a few other bits and bobs.

Still on the hunt for a red spoilerless bootlid though.
