Our NA8

So after the innocent statement 'lets get an MX5 to replace your motorcycle' from the wife, we ended up with the following.

viewtopic.php?f=73&t=61692

We were not looking for a competition car as such, just a fun road car but on a whim we went and looked at this and we both liked the acr and it seemed t have been pretty well looked after. The rest they say is history.

The plan is to just drive it and enjoy it. And do some of the MX5 club events. As we do not intend on competing with it some of the more motorsport related stuff will be sold off.

See you all around.

So have started having a tinker and look through what came with the car. Any one know what these coilovers are? There is no markings on them. The previous owner said they were very firm.

Any help would be appreciated.

So had a day tinkering with the NA yesterday. Put the coil overs in. Looks like a good ride height, even though with the standard 14s on the front it does look low. I'm hoping the lower offset rims I have planned will fill out the arches and not make it look as low.

The rears are a bit firm for my liking so need to do some work on the ride height and damping to see if I can get more compliance.

I'll need to order some new brake pads as the rears are getting down and the fronts have a horrible feel to them (no retardation with small inputs and the press a bit harder and they lock)

So we bought a NB glass hood from Terry. We got it yesterday and in a burst of inspiration I had a go at fitting it this evening. Was thinking it was going to be difficult but had most of it done in two hours this evening.

Was really tight though and took both of us to close it. From what I read this is pretty standard, am happy with the improved looks and security. Just needs a good clean this weekend.

Now need to go hunt down an intake to get some noise happening.

Hi Dan,
Glad to hear the car's got a new top! It must look much nicer already.

I bought those coilovers from Terry, so he might be able to tell you more about them. I believe he bought them out of Japan.

Cheers,
H

Hey Hanson

How are things over East? Spoke to Terry as I bought the top off him so was good to know what they were.

With the bit if research I've done it seems as though they use a similar damping and spring rates across a few cars. The front is OK but the 6Kg springs in the rear seem a bit firm. May look at a lower rate.

It looks good with the top and adds the security we were after. We are both enjoying driving it.

Cheers

The east is working out well, although we've yet to find a house.

I hope all is well with you guys. I saw a post on Facebook that suggested the mx5 had come to grief. No injuries for either of you I hope.

Yeah it had an altercation with a Hilux that turned right in front of me as I went through an intersection while the lights were green. Currently at the repairers and being dealt with by the insurers, and will know more early next week.

I'm all OK.

You will find that the glass hood will be illegal, so make sure you keep the OEM one. The bonnet is classified as an intrusion panel and hence needs to conform to the appropriate Australian Standards.

I think they meant glass hood as in a glass windowed soft top.

So it is now official. The little red NA8 has been written off due to the damage it sustained in the accident a few weeks ago. Insurance have been good (although it has taken longer than I anticipated) and we have decided to buy the car back for salvage. The intent is to take the good bits off of it (Eg Torsen the new roof we fitted rims). If there is anything that any one needs let me know.
