Snowmotion's NB8a

Hi Guys,

I have just launched myself into the world of MX5 ownership. I picked up on Monday, a 98 NB8a that is stock but with a few km's (199900). The car is well presented outside with normal wear and tear for a car of it's age and km's but will require a little attention on the mechanical side. The car drives very well but there are some oil and exhaust leaks and small details to be tided up. This is exactly the sort of car i wanted to get so I can spend some time tinkering with the car and fitted my purchase modest budget.
I have no photo's yet but will post some on the weekend. The car is only a weekender with a view to building up to some light track work.

My daily for the last year has been a VW van which drives very nicely but does nothing for my inner driver. Before this I had a Nissan import wagon (NM35 Stagea) that over the 5 years of ownership I managed to modify most aspects of it's performance. For a 1.8T station wagon it was pretty damn good, doing a 1/4 mile time of 14.1 at 159km/h and was lapped at Wakefield in 1:17.4 by it's current owner.

So I am enjoying reading about all the different things that have been done to this classic car and getting some ideas of what I will be able to do over time.
I am looking forward to getting into all this fun.

Andy

New lesson learn't today. Slow down the excitement.......

Previous owner told me the car had an alarm but had lost the fobs.
Investigation found the security card and contacted the company and ordered the new fob's.... (feeling really cleaver at this point :D )
Got the new fobs and the Alarm company also gave me new wiring as there had been a recall on the wiring.
So got under the dash last nigh to look at fitting the new wiring to only find that the alarm had been CUT OUT.... .

It doesn't seem too suspicious to me.

Car had alarm, owner lost remote to arm/disarm it, owner disabled it so they didn't need to worry about the alarm going off with no way to turn it off again.

If it's just a noise alarm (not an immobiliser) then it's probably worth replacing it with a better one anyway. People just ignore car alarms.

Did my first weekend of TLC to the new project.

1) Degrease motor and under tray.
2) Oil and filter & spark plug change... (that oil filter is a bitch to remove. May have to get K&N ones with bolt on the end)
3) Vacuum, wash and clay. (wow.. that is so much faster than my Van)
4) Center console repair. Broken long plastic hinge on center box so custom fitted a small hinge.
5) Rego transfer and new plates. (need to get new front plate mount)

I now know the transmission is ready for service with both rubber boots perished so ordered the boots. Looks like that is the next job then timing belt.

Looking a little shinier now.

I will post picks of the console repair tonight.
