Tesco's NB8B

Postby tescoking » Sun Jul 28, 2013 3:06 am

It's been a year having this NB8B, and this is my first car after I got my full license.

So, after a year, it is time to share my modification with everyone :)

The first thing I have modified on this car is the intake.

I purchased a K&N Typhoon cold air intake from one of the member, it is beautiful and sounds sooooooo good.

When I am happy with the intake and wondering how many horse power does it increase, I found a bad news about my intake. Because the intake does not come with the heat shield, so it actually sucking the heat from the header.

To make it become a truth CAI, I decided to go and find a panel beaters for a custom heat shield. Happyly he said he can make it, sadly it cost about $400....Can you believe that=.=

So, I told myself, I have to create something like every other member does in this forum, and I made my first move - Homemade intake shield.

After so many hours, many fail attempts, many times in and out Bunnings, I finally succeeded in making my virgin heat shield for my K&N Typhoon cold air intake.

However this is just a stage one, I am waiting for more parts to come in next week, then the heat shield will be stronger and more heat resistant. :P

Welcome to the DIY club, not too bad for an initial project and it's good to see that you recognise it can be further improved.

One thing you need to remember when purchasing any custom pieces is that it does take time to design/fabricate them and that the fabricator needs to make money too so the costs will always be way beyond what you'd expect.

The advantage of DIY is that it's cheaper since you're only paying for materials - many people seem to forget how long the part itself actually takes to fabricate and you often make many tweaks to get it to a point you're happy with.
Along the way you'll also purchase a lot of tools too but this is a good thing since the right tool can often make or break a project - or make it a cinch vs a pain in the arse (eg. now I would NEVER consider doing a shock replacement without my rattle gun). You can never have enough tools :P
You also learn a lot along the way and get braver with each DIY mod because you'll know what is and isn't achievable - and what you SHOULDN'T do yourself.

I'd suggest just cladding the interior side of your heat shield with heat shield wrapping as suggested by revlimiter here: http://clubroadster.net/vb_forum/18-engine-transmission-sponsored-track-dog-racing/100330-cold-side-intake-something-simple-reduce-heat-soak.html

Keep on moddin'

if you have a look on mx5parts.uk you can get a short antenna. You will have to buy the manual (non power) base also

it was one of the mods I did on my NB when I had it

I am a late night person, I work at night, play at night, my life pretty much functions under the moon more than the sun.

So...I installed some under bodylights, just to make myself more visible to others :P

Can you see my big smile? :D

This interior lights will turn off when the door is close, so I can get in the car easily in the dark and make sure I close the door probably :)

Installed a GT wing and it looks very street car style...But the down force is just too much for my car.

My car's mousepower is not enough to carry out the function of this wing, so I removed it after a few weeks...Anyone want it? Its on sale with the boot lid :)

Are those underside lights legal?

I thought blue lights can ONLY be used by police?

Replaced the oil silly plastic with the chrome one

Our radiator and air condenser is at risk, lets get them a protection.
I was so lucky, the seller put this item on bid and start from $30, luckily I am the only one placed the bid so I got it for $30 with free postage :D
But unfortunately my friend cannot find this item anymore, now the seller is selling $90 fix.
