Shuey's 2001 NB8B "Sparky Mk II"

Hullo! Scott's my name and Shuey's my nick name.
Currently living in Melbourne, Victoria.
Still rather new to the MX5 scene (although I've drĂven a couple of NA6s), but over the last couple months I've been lurking quite a bit and have gained quite a lot of good advice from the veterans here, thanks 93_Clubman  . Initially was looking for an NA8 due to its rarity and loved the pop up lights, but decided on an NB8B instead as the missus liked some creature comfort (couldn't persuade her to let me get the SE though).

Looked at a number of NB8Bs and even considered flying over to Sydney to bring one home, but then I saw this beauty being advertised. Had a minor fender bender in the past, but checked out okay. 136k mileage, heaps of Rego, full Mazda service history, completely stock, a new soft top and just 2 owners. Price was okay plus the couple who sold it too be was really friendly and helpful..so yeah, the rest was history.

Took some photos over the weekend and brought it home a couple hours ago. Gave it a quick wipe, but will probably give it a nice wash and polish over the Easter break. Still contemplating on whether I should bring it to the Great Ocean Road and Warrnambool as its front tyres probably needs to be changed (2005).

Although this is my weekend ride, but at this stage am probably not going to mod it much, but as how all my mods go.. it'll be discreet so that the missus won't find out

Thanks for the welcome, guys.
.. decided that my first "mod" was to give the yellowish headlights a good shine as it was getting dull. Went over to Repco and got myself a bottle of Meguiar's PlastX. Didn't go for kits with the sandpaper as the cloudiness wasn't too bad. Spent about 10 minutes slapping it on and buffing it out, although not perfect but I've got to admit that it does look much better. Will do a more thorough job over the weekend.

Simple response to the missus is - "No, that's always been there. You've probably just never noticed it."

Hello Scott ... looking forward to watching the progress ...

Did you end up taking the car down the Great Ocean Road? Great road for it, one of my favorite places. Really like it around Warrnambool and Port Fairy. Use to take our kids to Port Fairy every Christmas for about 10 years :) Took our NA over to Port Fairy recently via Halls Gap. Had a great time.

Yea, should've had.. I was regretting that decision all the way there when I got to all the nice twisty roads. However brought it down to the Mornington Peninsula yesterday for a short trip and took some photos of my stock ride. Nice drive with the top down, only saw about 2x 5ives on the road, guess the rest must all be at Phillip Island; 1 red NA6/8 parked on sale and 1 black NB8B (kinda unfriendly driver with a red beanie, smiled and wave but he just overtook me went his way).

Will add more when the rest of the goodies arrive in the mail :)

Yea, it's sitting pretty in the garage till I can find some time to get off work to drop the car off to MX5 Factory to get it attached. :(

Your day down the peninsular brings back some good memories...

I use to work in Dromana in the mid 70's (showing my age  ). I had moved out of home and had a flat in Mordialloc and use to commute down the peninsular every day. Had just got my license and use to love that drive every day in my first car - an immaculate VF Valiant Station Wagon, 225 slant six, that I bought off my parents :)

Spent a lot of time at Rosebud / Portsea, beautiful area.

Don't be too stressed about the dirty engine bay, shows the car gets used. Love to see any updates.

.. ok, since i couldn't stand the grease/oil on the cam cover, decided to whip out my trusty Armor All Multipurpose Cleaner and gave it a go last weekend. Not really a thorough job, but at least it looks a little better. I'll get into the nooks and crannies soon enough.

Bought some SE stuff off Lou recently (waiting for him to get back to me on other goodies), and it finally reached my doorstep when I got back from Sydney today. Since it was getting a little late, only managed to get the scuff plates on since it was a snap off/on job. Will get to work on the pedals tomorrow. I can't wait!

I was lucky enough to have those same scuff plates on my NB when I bought it. So much nicer than the stock black ones amongst all the spares he gave me.
