My British Racing Green '99 NB

Picked this 1999 NB up yesterday afternoon, only 91,000km on the clock. Very impressed with the car the previous owner has given it, would not guess that it's a 13 year old car. After 4 years of driving an auto, any manual would be awesome. But this is something else entirely. I totally understand the reputation these have, it's just a driver's car, plain and simple. Looking forward to driving it as much as humanly possible, it's done 400km since I picked it up.

Excellent!! You said you would and now you have!! I guess from now you have to be on the OTHER side of the camera!!

Was it that 'sit' in the NA last Saturday that convinced you it had to be an MX5 ?

Look forward to seeing you at a few of our Club runs in the future

Enjoy the ride

PS: Only 400km? I bet by tomorrow morning that will have doubled :!:

I'm down in Victoria Point. Close enough to get to QR and Lakeside :D Spotted a couple of others around here too, mostly stock looking cars, one silver NB with a rollbar installed.

Cheers Roger. Don't know about being on the other side of the camera, at some point I'm sure I will take it to QR, but it won't be seeing Lakeside any time soon. At the moment just driving it is enough, but we'll see.

Sitting in your NA is all is took to make it clear what kind of car it was. Started hunting, checked this one out, a long look and a short drive later, had to buy it the same night. The guy who owned it has taken really good care of it, seemed very disappointed to be letting it go. Will definitely be trying to get out in it whenever I can. Heading up to Lakeside now for Top Gear, hopefully the weather doesn't go back to how it was yesterday.

Another couple of photos. Got there, started taking photos, rain started again. Conveniently, I live next door. Gave me an excuse to see if I could make it slide out with sharp cornering in the carpark. Failed miserably.

Looks just great!! Not hard also to see who the pro photographer is!! We had a great day today with the run up to Bellbird Grove, 16 from Brisbane, a group from the Sunshine Coast, also Toowoomba & the Gold Coast, so 35 cars by the time we got there via Mt Glorious and Mt Nebo!! If you want to see how an MX5 corners, just take the better half up that way for a nice cruise and coffee!!

MX5 Club Queensland Facebook site has pics of the day, I think there are 36, just wish I had fitted the in-car video for the run up 'Glorious'!! Better still, the run down thru Mt Nebo, lots of 20-30-40 corners one after the other!!

Catch up soon mate

I did see a thread about that run today. I left Lakeside really early, didn't feel like standing around taking photos; felt like driving instead :p Thought about joining you guys but figured I'll tag along on another one instead. Spent a lot of today just cruising around. I will definitely be hunting for fun roads to drive. Did West Mt Cotton Road again today, might have scared Tash a little bit.. Going to do the mountains, Lamington National park sometime, and next year Tash and I are going up to Montville again for our anniversary. She's determined that we will be able to fit all we need in the boot. Somehow.

Speaking of in-car cameras, I'm planning on picking up a Blackvue DR400G dashcam from a buddy this week. Reviews are good, originally just planned to have it in the triton in case of an accident courtesy of stupid drivers. Will have to get a second mount to put it in the mx too :)

Finally finished the washing/clay bar/polish/wax process, for now. Haven't drĂven it in a couple of days coz I didn't want to drive it without wax after the clay bar. Looks a lot nicer now though, swirls are pretty much gone.

It looked nasty close up before all the fixing. Never noticed just how bad the swirls were before giving it a good wash. Took about 350ml of Meguiar's Ultimate Compound to do the whole car, Tash and I together took about 4 and a half hours.

TP, picture link for after image does not work.

I agree with Meguiar products, can't fault them. Have tried several other brands over the years and none have match the impressive gloss finish. I've been using the high-tech yellow wax but it seem, SCA don't stock them anymore :( .

As iterated by Roger, hope to see you on a club run. Would be nice to have another green NB along.

After shot, working link: http://imgur.com/APKpj. Does this forum not have an Edit Post function, or am I just missing it? :|

This is the first car I've owned that I care about enough to actually take care of. I have a company Mitsubishi Triton, they refuse to maintain it properly mechanically so I refuse to put any more than 10 minutes of my time into taking it through a car wash once every couple of months. Before that I had a VS commodore, nice dark purple colour but just not worth the effort. Meguiar's is the only stuff I've even used at this point, but I would be shocked if it was anything less than very highly rated amongst users. This lot was done with Gold Class wash, Quik Detailer/clay bar, Ultimate Compound, and topped with Gold Class liquid wax.

I'm definitely planning on getting to a few club runs, I might be able to get to the last one of the year, ending at Cleveland Point. Will depend how the day goes though, I'll be at Lakeside shooting all day so if they have their usual number of write offs, could be a little late for that one. I saw the shots of the all-chapters one to bellbird park, looks like an awesome club to join.

Been a while, not a lot has changed. Now has a Sparco Sprint V seat and EBC Redstuff pads on slotted/dimpled rotors. One track day at QR and one at Lakeside, second QR one this coming Monday. Tuesday a tall boy roll bar is going in, hopefully along with some mounting plates for a 6pt harness on the way from the UK. A new Velo helmet and a HANS device turned up last week, so once the roll bar and harness go in I'll be nice and safe when I mess up at Lakeside and hit something. Stuck some Duralock on the back of my phoen and the top of my windscreen tonight, so split times on the track should be a little more visible than down by the head unit like last time.
