Gday - tfdpny's NB8A

Hi all,

Long time lurker and wanter - finally bought myself a 2000 Highlight Silver NB8A Hardtop. Feels a little unresponsive at the moment, probably needs some fresh fuel and a service but otherwise it is in excellent nick and done 146000kms.

Also ran into the dreaded idle droop tonight, but only for about a 5 min period after the car had been running for 45+ mins.

Was hoping for some matte black 6ULs, but by the sounds of things at MX5centre that probably wont be happening. Maybe some Rota RBs (yes, I know about Rota quality but its a road car only). Also want to drop the old 6disc stacker and indash Mazda HU with something better, maybe lower it a little bit and a nice intake. It is so nice and original though i feel guilty changing anything.

Can anyone who has the original NB8A head unit tell me if the main screen is backlit? Mine seems to have died. Thanks, hope to learn lots more and get to know everyone through the ownership experience.

Pete

Welcome to the obsession and the forum!

I can't answer your question re backlight, but sounds like you have great plans for the car, don't feel guilty modding anything, this is what these cars were designed for!

Enjoy the ride, keep it on the black stuff sunny side up!

Cheers
(Another) Pete.

Screen is backlit.
It's also hooked into the gauge cluster dimmer switch, so check it's not simply turned right down.

As for Rota quality, they're fine. They meet all the same standards as Rays etc, the onyl difference is Rays exceed the standards and use different materials for lower weight etc.

There's only about 6 photos of Rotas being broken circulaitng the web, and there's been millions of wheels sold.

Welcome!

Make sure you join the local MX-5 club or catch up with some forum members who also have an NB, you'll be able to feel how responsive the car feels after different modifications.
