Kev's NB8A

Postby Kev05 » Sat May 26, 2012 1:02 pm

Hi all,

Here is my 1998 NB Series 1. Picked in up today and then promptly took it out for a drive. However things did not start very well. Shortly after exiting the service station and heading south along Old Northern road, a camry turn into my path causing the wheel to lock up and narrowly avoiding a head on. Fortunately I was only in third gear doing less than 50kphr. It is a 70kphr zone. Then whilst touring the country side of Samford, I caught a splatter from the sky hitting the windscreen and missing me by cms. It would have been an embarrassing episode had it landed on me as the top was down.

Spotted another Mx5 waiting at the lights at the T-junction of Eaton Crossing and South Pine road. It was a red NC with the top down, gentleman driver wearing a white cap. If you're on this forum, I apologise for not giving you the customary wave.

It is simply amazing how much joy one gets out of this tiny rocket pocket. After a few short legal sprints, I'm starting to understand the meaning of spirited driving.

Anyhow here are a few photos of my new toy.

Here are the splatters from the sky.

Future mods???
  • Perhaps a Goodwin racing Q muffler kit for a sportier tone.
  • Cover to protect the folded roof from the elements.
  • A wooden rim steering wheel.

Looks lovely. :) Clean that bird poo off  before it damages the clear coat. Come along on the club run on Sunday, 10 June. It will be a good drive.

Thanks.

Cleaning the poo was the first task immediately after getting back.

I've had correspondence with Denise and will be there on June 10. Looking forward to it.

Kev

Just wait until you drive over onto Bribie Island and realise there are pelicans sitting on the lamp posts and you have the roof DOWN!!

So far so good for me but I have been bombed in my red Corolla :!: It was like someone dumped a bucket of white paint over it :!:

I've heard about the Redcliffe Bridge and the couple in a SAAB with the roof down, use imagination as to what happened :!:

I've been told it is good luck. Perhaps a sign of good fortune for avoiding the collision a few minutes earlier.

That would have been embarrassing. Imagine the smell after the poo dries and believe me, it dries pretty quick at 60kmphr.

Roger, I noticed in your signature you're a member of the sunshine coast club. Once my membership is finalised with the Brisbane Chapter, I'm keen on attending one of your runs. Prefer one involving a leisurely cruise follow by an ala carte meal. Yes, I'm showing my age.

Welcome there, for a brief second I thought Kevin 07 was making a return!

Ahhh there she is! We were so happy it went to a good owner :)

Glad to hear the first drive didn't end badly!! Funnily enough, on our first drive of it 7 years ago, we were also bombarded by a passing bird. I think it's a sign of good luck!

Happy driving Kev05! We will miss our former NB8A dearly. I wish we could have justified owning 2 cars.

Thanks Baron, she is going great. Drove via the gateway with the top down this evening and the heater on. Pity the car is bit low and the concrete barrier too high thus not able to admire the view. Trying to put a few ks on it before sending it in for another service at Mx5 Plus.

Thanks again and I'm certain you will get a replacement soon. Perhaps a Nc2?

Thanks mate...the only similarity, we're both from Queensland but don't share any of Kevin07 ideology.

Bought a pair of comfortable leather seats to support my fat ass. Also bought a very tacky RM Williams steering wheel cover. Initially I wanted a Nardi wooden steering wheel but it is not airbag compatible.

The usual worn area in the driver side entry area.

Removing the seats.

Bought a bottle of Meguaire leather cleaner to polish the seats.

Next on the list is a Voodoo polished gear knob and hand brake.
Possibly some E type wire wheels if I can find them or someone to make a set for me and a set of white wall tyres.
