Postby RedMX » Sat Apr 09, 2011 7:43 pm

Bought it 2nd hand off a female owner in Knoxfeild in Melbournes S/e suburbs (not far from where i work). Pure convenience for veiwing after work had finished. Two weeks later it was mine & following that I joined here.

& this is my money pit in the curent form that i had recived it. on the 1/4/2011 was i a fool for buying this.... i think not (april fools day)

8/4/2011 I had her sent to the mechinics to go for a Pre roadworthyness check.

& the mehanic to my suprise came back with a small list of things to fix.

1. Wiper Blades.
2. Rear window to be replaced (fogged vynil).
3. Front brake shudder, Replace front rotors & pads.
4. Both sun visors missing.
5. Top up master cylinder with brake fluid

& thats all, rather pleased with the effort really..... i was expecting alot worse. After work I poped down to MX5 Factory in Ringwood & purchased a set of visors and 2 vent inserts (with orbs) to replace 2 worn ones i had that i was not happy with. $40 later :D

9/4/2011
I went down to autobarn & bought some dot 4 fluid & ordered my rotors  . Just have to wait for them to turn up

Rear window to be replaced (fogged vynil).

This often helps avoid the bright headlights when a large vehicle is up your rear end.

and the visors missing is common, i took mine off since they don't have a use for me (6'4) and don't cover the side windows properly. If you require some many aftermarket places stock them.

Welcome to the obsession

Thanks for the welcome  I managed to get a stock set of visors from MX5 Factory so all good.

As for the rear window they will not let me pass with the one in it :( as that it's way too far gone

buy a can of a product called Vuplex

on Pam's car it seemed to help clear the window a bit, it wasn't permanent. and wasn't perfect, but it might be enough to pass RWC if you do it before the test.

I got mine from a local Autopro, but Autobarn and Supercheap Auto might sell it too.

13/4/2011

Went to the local autobarn & got some Vuplex and picked up my Rotors & Hub/Bearing kit and i found a good parts supplyer that is cheeper than Supercheep, Auto Pro & Auto Barn in most cases for Hardware.... Place called Mega Auto Parts in Wiltona (Williamstown) basicly they suply the bare basics in parts @ a good price

12/4/2011

I had a slight thought that the Vuplex might not have the balls to bring the window up to shape. So i got some Meguires Plastix (Perspex Cutters/Polish) so i got too it & used the Meguires first & then the Vuplex second.
I would like to thank my dad for hinting towards the Meguires Plastix..... dont think i would have got the result i was after with just the Vuplex.

I was verry happy with the result as that before i could not actully see out the window & now i can :)

They look like they are.

I think I mentioned to you that I have been through 3 of them in 2 months due to poor build quality...

Genuine Mazda for that kind of thing I say.

16/4/2011 Part B

After some adjusting of the bonnet & lights it looks somewhat ok now. I have a feeling the the bumper may need a tweek.
Other than that some elbow grease & some time brought the paint back to life.
