My new daily driver and future track car

Postby Kkhrome » Sat Feb 26, 2011 11:00 am

Hi Guys and Gals,
Just thought I'd post some pictures up of my first Mx-5. Having previously owned a Series 6 Rx-7 I didn't think I'd be able to get a car for under $10k that handled anywhere near as good as it, but I think I have come pretty close. And the funny thing is, it is stock standard except for the body kit and leather seats, so when I have some money to put into it, I think it will be close to beating it, through the corners anyway.

It's not in the best condition, but only had 135,000 kms and full logbook history when I picked it up.

Did my first track day in it too the other weekend at QR and I'm hooked! My best time for the day was 1:14.77 (clubman track), not that fast I know, but that was with the worst tyres in the WORLD!! No grip what so ever! Can't wait to get back out there again in April, hopefully with better tyres.

Really liking this forum too, everyone is friendly and there is bucket loads of information as well.

Anyway enough yapping and more pics! :)

Grant

Nice one, what type of wheels are those if you dont mind me asking.

Some sway bars will definitely get this bad boy handling much better BTW, although it sounds like you will be making this a track weapon so im sure you have this on the agenda 8)

They look exactly the same as a set of Cheviot Alloys I had on a company car back in 1993..

Yep, got the specs off here somewhere. Was one of the first things I did, after advancing the timing to 14 DEG lol.

Yep, spot on, Aussie ROH Chevoit Mags. They've been gutter rashed to hell though, but not to worry, gave me a good excuse to get new wheels. :D
Speaking of which, this arrived in the mail a couple of days ago.

What sort of money do new RPF1 wheels go for? Weight about 5kg?

I added these to them today.

Federal 595RS-R's 205/50/15's

$161 each fitted and balanced.

Can't wait to try them out, just waiting for my Rays lug nuts to arrive.

Wheels are so so nice, 4.5kg!!! - FD Rx-7 - I absolutely think this was the best looking of the lot, a true classic shape. I bet you had fun!
