I had planned to drive to sydney for easter, and while i was there i picked up this nb and new car trailer. The car had a light hit on the front and just needed a new front guard and bumper. There was no structural damage whatsoever. I already had nb8b headlights and and bumper.





Now i just have to find the time to work on it.

Can anyone tell me or show a pic of how the spare tyre board and jack/handle goes. And what is the thing behind the seats for that hinges up. I take it that it is a wind blocker, but why does it need to go up and down.

I quickly bolted on a new guard and the NB8B headlights and front bar. It alll lines up perfectly. And it's a genuine 98,000km car lady owner. She let her son drive the car, and he wasn't covered on the insurance policy.

I want to get a full respray, as i want it to look as new, and not just clean with slightly different coloured panels. Can anyone recomend a spray painter around melbourne?

windblocker. you can hear the wind rushing past your ears with it down, so with it up, it blocks some of the wind. handy if you have the heater on and you want to retain heat in the cabin

One other question- Since i have changed to NB8B headlights i need to change the wiring to suit. The old lights have the three wires for high/low beams. And the new ones have seperate bulbs for low beam and halogen high beam. I need to know which colour wires go where.

if you have a multimeter, just experiment. see which wires get 12v when you turn on the park / low beam and high beam, then you can connect ground and 12v to whichever light it belongs to...

i am not sure if the plugs would fit the new lights...i could help but you are a bit far:)

There won't be any c.f parts or mods going on this car. I wanted something driveable without the worry of being pulled over for defects. And this car is in very good original condition. I will just paint it, put some good tyres on and give it a full service and timing belt change. It even comes with original log books and tonneau (<that's some crazy spelling) cover.

i think you should make all carbon bits, then paint it mmm NB carbon

With the headlights you might find a constant positive power and the earth switches the lights on and off, as opposed to a constant earth with a switching positive. Dont know why car manufacturers do this but I know toyota used to, from my hazy past as a mechanic. Hope this helps.

using relays... instead of having many high current 12v (relatively high current) cables, they can get away with one 12v and multiple earth cables i suppose...

I will walk down to the mazda dealer down the road and have a sticky beak and get some prices on a few things while i am there. Even the inner liners in the wheel well are different shape on the nb8b.

If you need a spray painter, try Oven Baked Enamel/ MX5 Factory in Ringwood.

I will see how much they charge, i am sure they are not cheap.

I quickly painted the guard and bonnet yesterday, needs to be sanded and cleared, but i won't bother, it can be done when the car gets painted. The guy that mixes the paint is pretty bad at colour coding too. Still it looks better than white.

And the reflector from my NA fits straight onto this bumper.

I decided as the car is in such good condition and has low k's i'd swap back to the original front. I had it painted last week, it looks really good. I have been assembling it when i have time. And everything gets a thorough clean and polish before it goes back on. Almost done the outside, pretty much just have to detail the interior now. All the plastics - the headlights, taillights, etc come up like new. I even used a toothbrush to get all the old polish out of the lettering on the reflectors.

After all my effort in getting this car in perfect condition it looks like i will have to sell it now. I am building a new workshop as i hate working in the old garage. Something new and clean with proper heating and a/c will make working in much nicer. Pity i can't drive it. Anywho the nb will be for sale soon, i am getting it registered next week. So it will have 12 months rego and r.w.c. It is in really good condition - new paint, prep'd properly (not just masked up over everything) all new badges from mazda, interior is very clean too, as is under the bonnet. Very tight feeling car, enjoyable to drive. It can be optioned up with a number of things from trust intake to alloy vents, oem hardtop, c.f hardtop, wheels, tyres, seats, etc. I have heaps of bits. Car is in melbourne 20 min from the centre of town. I would like to get about $11,900 for it.
